The Hanoi National University's Competency Assessment Examination Council denied the information that some candidates scored 135/150 points as posted by some fake accounts right after the first round of exams ended.
On March 15 and 16, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) organized the first Competency Assessment exam of 2025 (HSA-501).
The examination council said that the HSA - 501 exam will take place at 8 examination locations including the Institute of Digital Training and Testing (Cau Giay and Hoa Lac campuses), University of Technology, University of Natural Sciences, Thang Long University, Thai Binh University and Nam Dinh University of Technical Education.
The total number of candidates registered for the exam is 11,027, the number of candidates who completed the application form correctly and came to take the exam is 10,958 (99.4%); 1 candidate was disciplined and suspended from the exam.
Sharing with VietNamNet reporter, Professor Nguyen Tien Thao, Chairman of the Competency Assessment Council of Hanoi National University, said that according to preliminary statistics, the highest score of the first competency assessment round was 126/150, the second highest score was 125/150. Initial assessment is that the average score of the competency assessment test in 2025 will be slightly higher than previous years because candidates can choose the third part of the test to promote their personal abilities and strengths.
According to Mr. Thao, the Hanoi National University's Competency Assessment Test is designed based on modern measurement testing science. The test structure and test questions are distributed from grade 10 to grade 12 (in proportions of 10-15%, 30-40%, 50-60% respectively) and short-term review does not bring high efficiency to candidates.
The exam organizer also recommends that candidates should have a scientific and systematic study and review plan instead of getting bogged down in promotional exam preparation groups.
“In the past two days, some exam preparation groups impersonating candidates (using fake accounts) “reviewed” the 501st round of the Competency Assessment exam to advertise and attract candidates to prepare for the exam. Right after the first exam session ended at 11am on March 15, some fake accounts posted scores of 126/150 and 135/150 while no candidate achieved these scores on the first day of the exam. Therefore, candidates need to pay attention and develop a suitable personal review plan for the next round of the Competency Assessment exams,” said Mr. Thao.
Professor Nguyen Tien Thao said that candidates also need to refer to the admission plan information of universities requiring the corresponding admission combination.
The next 502nd exam will take place on March 29 and 30 in Hanoi, Hai Duong, Thai Nguyen, Hung Yen, Thai Binh, Thanh Hoa, and Ha Tinh with nearly 20,000 candidates registering to take the exam.
The Hanoi National University's Competency Assessment Test will be applied from 2025 for candidates taking the new general education program. Candidates must complete two compulsory sections: Mathematics and data processing (50 questions, 75 minutes), Literature - Language (50 questions, 60 minutes) and an optional section of Science or English (50 questions, 60 minutes). For the Science section, candidates must choose 3 out of 5 topics in the fields of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History and Geography. According to initial assessments, students in the city choose the third section, English, more than the Science section. Meanwhile, candidates in rural areas choose the Science section more.
Up to now, 100 universities have used the results of the Hanoi National University's Competency Assessment Exam for university admission.
