Believing and following the person who claimed to be the director and manager of the TV station, Ms. N. in Hanoi received a total of 28 orders with 96 products, only to be scammed out of more than 400 million.
On December 17, Ba Vi District Police (Hanoi) said they were verifying the case of impersonating a TV station to announce a lottery win, then appropriating more than 400 million VND from women in the area.
Specifically, Ms. N. (in Ba Vi district, Hanoi) received a phone call from people claiming to be employees of a television station informing her that she had participated in a prize-winning program with many big prizes such as televisions, refrigerators, etc.
To receive the prize, Ms. N. must go to the TV station or participate online at home by purchasing products with prices ranging from 900,000 VND to 3 million VND. When completing the purchase, she will be drawn and a staff from Ho Chi Minh City will come to award the prize.
Because of trust, Ms. N. agreed to buy an order worth 900 thousand VND. After completing the purchase, another person claiming to be the director and manager of the TV station called and enticed her to place orders sent by these people.
Ms. N. received a total of 28 orders with 96 products from people claiming to be TV station employees, enticing her to order them, with a total payment of more than 400 million VND. After discovering that she had been scammed, Ms. N. went to the police to report the incident.
From the above incident, Hanoi City Police recommends that people should be cautious and vigilant against messages and calls announcing winning prizes or participating in free customer appreciation programs.
This is most likely a scam by the subjects to exploit the psychology of many people who like gifts. If you encounter cases with signs of fraud, please report to the nearest police station for guidance and resolution according to regulations.
