Previously, Mr. Thao discovered a Java pangolin straying into his garden, so he contacted the forest ranger hotline to hand it over. The pangolin weighed 1.7 kg and was in normal health.
After receiving it, Huong Thuy Town Forest Protection Department took care of the pangolin and is completing procedures to release it back into the wild as soon as possible.
The Javan pangolin has the scientific name Manis Javanica, belonging to the List of endangered, precious and rare forest plants and animals, group IB, as stipulated in Decree No. 84/2021/ND-CP dated September 22, 2021 of the Government on amending and supplementing a number of articles of Decree 06/2019/ND-CP dated January 22, 2019 of the Government on management of endangered, precious and rare forest plants and animals and implementation of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.
The leader of the Huong Thuy Town Forest Protection Department said that the people's voluntary handover of wild animals shows their awareness of joining hands to protect wildlife, contributing significantly to species conservation and biodiversity conservation.
