People offer incense and pay tribute to heroic martyrs at Mai Dich cemetery

(Dan Tri) - Over the past two weekends, many people have come to Mai Dich cemetery (Hanoi) to take care of the graves and offer incense to pay tribute to heroes and martyrs on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day, July 27.
Mai Dich Cemetery is located on Ho Tung Mau Street (Mai Dich Ward, Cau Giay District, Hanoi) built in 1956 on an area of 59,000m2. This is the resting place of 1,228 martyrs and 394 people who were members of the Politburo, members of the Party Central Committee, scientists, culturalists, writers, poets who received the Ho Chi Minh Prize, outstanding generals, heroes of the armed forces... From the beginning of July until now, towards the 77th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day July 27 (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2024), every day people come to Mai Dich cemetery, respectfully burning incense to pay tribute to the heroes and martyrs who fell for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland. Inside the martyrs’ cemetery, the rows of graves are built in straight rows, paved with blue stone, and are cleaned and looked after daily. The flower vases at each grave are also replaced, and the surrounding area is always kept clean and beautiful. On the afternoon of July 21, some relatives of the martyrs were also present quite early, bringing candles, incense, and flowers to commemorate their loved ones. Mr. Nguyen Van Thang (Hai Ba Trung district), after taking care of his relative's grave and lighting incense sticks for the surrounding graves, shared: "Coming here, I feel very moved and grateful. When witnessing thousands of graves, I feel the great sacrifice of the heroic martyrs. My family also has relatives who are martyrs, so these days are even more meaningful to me." At the beginning of the year and especially on War Invalids and Martyrs Day, July 27, Ms. Le Thi Bich Hang (Nam Tu Liem district) and her family always come to burn incense for the leaders of the Party, State and heroic martyrs who sacrificed for the country at the National Monument. After that, her family went to the private grave of their relative to clean and burn incense. Ms. Hang shared: "Before that, on July 19, when I heard that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong passed away, I was very surprised because I always admired him for the contributions he made to the country. I am extremely grateful to him." In addition, 394 graves of Party and State leaders, scientists, cultural figures, writers, poets who received the Ho Chi Minh Prize, outstanding generals, heroes of the armed forces... are arranged along both sides of the monument to the Fatherland. The outer row faces the main axis, with 10 graves on each side. According to Decree 105/2012/ND-CP dated December 17, 2012 of the Government, the members of senior officials who are eligible for burial at Mai Dich cemetery are officials under the management of the Politburo; revolutionary veterans before 1945 who were awarded the First Class Independence Medal or higher; scientists, culturalists, writers, poets who received the Ho Chi Minh Prize, outstanding generals, heroes of the armed forces, etc. Senior officials include the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the President, the Chairman of the National Assembly, the Prime Minister whose funeral is held according to the National Funeral or State funeral rites.
Other graves are arranged horizontally from the main axis, in front of the tombs of unknown martyrs, and a separate horizontal row along the front of scientists, cultural figures, writers, poets who received the Ho Chi Minh Prize... is located next to two small lakes. On the left of the National Monument, from the first square is the grave of former Prime Minister Pham Van Dong, then the graves of Party and State leaders: Ton Duc Thang, Nguyen Luong Bang, Hoang Van Thu, Nguyen Chi Thanh, Nguyen Duy Trinh, Tran Quoc Hoan, Le Thanh Nghi, Van Tien Dung, To Huu. On the right side of the monument to the Fatherland, the first square is empty, from the second square are the graves of the Party and State leaders: Le Duan, Pham Hung, Truong Chinh, Le Duc Tho, Hoang Quoc Viet, Le Kha Phieu, Le Van Luong, Dao Duy Tung, Chu Huy Man.
On July 20, according to the announcement from the Funeral Committee of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong will be held according to the National Funeral protocol, taking place over two days, July 25 and 26. The memorial service for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong will be held at 1:00 p.m. on July 26 at the National Funeral Home No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi. The burial ceremony will be at 3:00 p.m. the same day at Mai Dich Cemetery, Hanoi.
