According to Sputnik news agency, on October 22, in a statement before his trip to Russia, Prime Minister Modi said that his trip would help strengthen the special and privileged strategic partnership between New Delhi and Moscow.
"India appreciates the close cooperation within BRICS, which has emerged as an important platform for dialogue and discussion on issues related to the global development agenda, reform multilateralism, climate change, economic cooperation, building resilient supply chains, promoting cultural and people-to-people connectivity," Mr. Modi stressed.
According to him, the expansion of BRICS with the addition of new members has helped strengthen global unity and order.
"India attaches great importance to BRICS and I look forward to having in-depth discussions on a wide range of topics. I also look forward to meeting many leaders there," the Prime Minister said.
Meanwhile, the TASS news agency on the same day quoted BRICS International Forum Chair Purnima Anand as saying that the group has proven effective in economic management and development and can participate in resolving major conflicts, while Western organizations are facing difficulties and the United Nations "needs reform".
Believing that countries are looking for a new position for themselves, according to Ms. Anand, BRICS is increasingly becoming an attractive choice for many countries, an extremely favorable platform, continuously proving its stability, independence and economic success, the clearest evidence of which "is shown in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic over the past 5 years".
Russia will assume the rotating BRICS presidency from the beginning of 2024, with more than 200 different events planned. The BRICS summit in Kazan from October 22-24 will be the main event of Russia's presidency year.
The event, themed “Strengthening Multilateralism for Global Development and Security,” will serve as a platform to address key global challenges and unite BRICS member states.
In addition, the BRICS+ Summit taking place during this period with the theme "BRICS and the Global South. Building a Better World Together" will also discuss food and energy security issues, as well as the situation in the Middle East.
BRICS includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa and has recently expanded to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
