(NLDO) - The ruins of a village in Central Canada could cause the history of North American civilization to be rewritten.
According to Live Science, traces of the mysterious village were discovered in Âsowanânihk in Sturgeon Lake First Nation (SLFN), the territory of the Cree people, an indigenous Indian tribe. This area is in the province of Saskatchewan, Central Canada.
It was previously thought that the early Native Americans lived a nomadic lifestyle. But the ancient village, which is up to 11,000 years old, challenges that theory.

"This site is changing everything we know and could change the story of early indigenous civilization in North America," said amateur archaeologist Dave Rondeau, who first discovered the site in 2023.
According to archaeologist Glenn Stuart from the University of Saskatchewan (Canada), a member of the archaeological team that took over the site, they have excavated countless valuable artifacts since then.
They include stone tools, fire pits and bones of bison antiquus, a species that became extinct millennia ago.
A very large fire pit suggests that the site was used for a long period or repeatedly for shorter periods, indicating that it was a permanent settlement rather than a temporary hunting camp.
Charcoal from one of the fireplaces was radiocarbon dated to about 10,700 years ago.
That means people lived in the village right after the last ice age ended, creating suitable land for crops to grow.
Thus, the indigenous people in North America have long lived settled lives, not just nomadic tribes as archaeologists once thought.
Traces also show that this ancient settlement was used for thousands of years.
This important archaeological site is being further studied by the SLFN's Âsowanânihk Council, which includes chiefs and many scientists.
They are also working with local authorities to protect the site. The first ruins have been revealed by riverbank erosion, but that is also threatening to cause the ancient village to disappear forever.
