According to CNBC , the US Customs and Border Protection has issued new guidance on reciprocal tariffs previously imposed by President Donald Trump.
The guidelines were issued on the evening of April 11 (local time). In addition to the new tariff exemptions for smartphones, computers, and chips, the guidelines also include exclusions for electronic equipment and components such as semiconductors, solar panels, flat-panel televisions, flash drives, and memory cards.

This guidance is effective for products that have left the warehouse as of April 5.
So the above items may be subject to tariffs, but likely much lower than the 145% tax that President Donald Trump has imposed on goods from China. This could help Asian chipmakers, such as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) of China, or Samsung of South Korea...
The move also benefits technology companies like Apple, which manufactures a large portion of its products in China. According to Evercore ISI, China produces 80% of Apple's iPads and more than half of its Macbooks.
“This is a dream scenario for tech investors. Smartphones, chips excluded is a game-changer when it comes to tariffs on China,” Dan Ives, global head of technology research at Wedbush Securities, told CNBC .
Earlier, President Donald Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on April 11 that there could be exceptions to his comprehensive tariffs but that “10% is the floor.”
The White House did not respond when contacted by CNBC for information on the above information.
According to CNBC, since President Donald Trump announced the imposition of reciprocal tariffs, Apple has lost more than $640 billion in market value.
Stocks also sold off sharply as uncertainty and volatility spiked on Wall Street, with the S&P 500 down more than 5% during the period through the close on April 11.
Notably, the bond market rally is believed to have forced the White House to reverse some decisions, including a 90-day tariff delay for most countries and a move to a general 10% tariff, excluding China.
