Stabilize and develop border areas
Comrade Lech-lay Sí-vi-lay - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary, Governor of Sekong province said that since the early days of the province's establishment, the provincial Party Committee and government have focused on implementing foreign policy. In particular, the twinning relationship and comprehensive cooperation with Quang Nam - Da Nang province since 1984 and Quang Nam province since 1997 to present.
According to the Department of Foreign Affairs of Quang Nam, in recent years, the comprehensive cooperative relationship between the two twinned provinces of Quang Nam - Sekong continues to develop strongly.
Regular visits and working visits by leaders at all levels have promoted the good implementation of the commitments made by the two localities.
Issues arising in the border area are quickly and effectively resolved by the two localities, especially in implementing construction projects located in the border area.
Notably, since 2012, the work of twinning villages and hamlets on both sides of the Quang Nam - Se Kong border has been implemented, bringing important significance and positive results.
Up to now, the two localities have maintained exchange activities and helped each other develop together in 35 villages of 10 border communes in Tay Giang and Nam Giang districts with 16 villages of 3 village clusters in Ka Lum and Dac Chung districts (Se Kong province).
With the Nam Giang - Dac Ta Ooc international border gate pair, import and export activities through this area are increasing. In particular, the demand for exporting agricultural, forestry and mineral products from Sekong province and the southern provinces of Laos through Nam Giang international border gate to the sea of Quang Nam, Da Nang city and Thua Thien Hue is very large. This is a signal affirming the increasingly developing cooperative relationship between Quang Nam - Sekong.
For common development
Comrade Lech-lay Sí-vi-lay said that over the past 40 years, Sekong has received funding and support for hundreds of projects with a total value of tens of billions of VND from Vietnamese provinces and cities. Among them, there are many projects and programs of Quang Nam province, especially in the fields of health, education, agriculture, national defense and security.
In the field of social security and education, in recent years, Quang Nam has supported Tha Teng district to build Huoi Sai Primary School; and supported the construction of a Primary School for La Mam district.
In addition, the organization provides medical examinations, medicine distribution, and gifts to people; supports the Vietnamese Association in Sekong province with funding to build community houses and organize traditional Vietnamese holidays; and programs to give rice to people in border villages of Sekong province during the lean season are maintained regularly.
Notably, there are currently 168 Sekong students studying in Quang Nam province. At the same time, Quang Nam also received and trained 30 Sekong leaders and managers to study intermediate political theory at Quang Nam Provincial Political School for 6 months; organized training to transfer agricultural techniques to 15 Sekong agricultural and forestry officials.
During the working session of the Quang Nam Provincial Delegation with the Provincial Party Committee - People's Council - Government Committee - Lao Front Committee for National Construction of Sekong Province, Comrade Luong Nguyen Minh Triet - Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee said that currently, the connecting traffic infrastructure is still limited, National Highway 14D is seriously degraded and has not met the requirements for transporting goods in large quantities, which has affected the import and export turnover between the two sides through the Nam Giang international border gate.
Quang Nam has proposed that the Central Government soon invest in this route and aim to upgrade the Tay Giang - Ka Lum secondary border gate to a main border gate.
In addition, Quang Nam will propose that the Central Government promptly remove obstacles to deploy the construction of the Sekong Provincial Disease Control Center and the 105th Reconnaissance Company of the Sekong Provincial Military Command according to the commitment of the two localities.
