Medical experts warn that diabetic patients with complications not only increase medical costs but also reduce quality of life, and the disease will become more serious if not accessed and treated promptly.
Dr. Tran Quang Nam, Head of the Department of Endocrinology, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, said that complications of diabetes often progress silently and can occur in many parts of the body (brain, cardiovascular system, kidney, eye, vascular system and peripheral nervous system, etc.). In particular, complications in the eye in the early stages do not affect vision, so they are often overlooked by patients. Understanding the risk factors for diabetes will help people be more proactive in protecting their health and preventing the disease.
According to Dr. Tran Thi Thuy Dung, Department of Endocrinology, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, many diabetic patients need to use insulin to control blood sugar. However, if insulin is injected incorrectly, it will cause some complications for the patient. Patients should only use the pen needle once, avoid reusing it too many times to reduce pain when injecting and limit the risk of lipodystrophy at the injection site.
When prescribing insulin injections to patients at home, doctors and nurses provide detailed instructions on injection techniques and storage. Patients need to follow the instructions and have regular check-ups, develop a balanced diet, and exercise properly. When insulin is injected properly, patients will control their blood sugar well, optimize treatment effectiveness, and prevent complications.
