On the last day of the National Day holiday, September 2, a large number of passenger buses poured into Hanoi Bus Stations, however, traffic at the gateway area was clear and there was no prolonged congestion.

On the last day of the National Day holiday, on the afternoon of September 3, people from provinces and cities returned to the capital with their belongings, and passenger buses lined up at Hanoi bus stations...

“Same class” bus fare

According to the reporter’s records at 4 p.m. at Giap Bat bus station, passenger buses continuously entered the station carrying a large number of passengers. Everyone looked tired after the journey to the capital to prepare for a new working day.

In particular, on the routes near Giap Bat bus station, there are many Grab and traditional motorbike taxi drivers standing to solicit passengers. Right along Giai Phong street, many passenger buses do not enter the station but pull over right on the side of the road to drop off passengers.

Inside the bus stop area, Hanoi Transport Corporation (Transerco) has also arranged to increase the frequency of bus routes passing through universities or transit points, connecting bus stations such as route 03 (Giap Bat Bus Station - Gia Lam Bus Station), route 32 (Giap Bat Bus Station - Nhon), route 16 (Nuoc Ngam Bus Station - My Dinh Bus Station) to quickly relieve passengers.

After lunch, Pham Duc Binh (Ninh Binh city), a student at the University of Transport, was taken by his father to Ninh Binh bus station to catch a bus to the capital, worried about traffic jams.

The bus only had 10 passengers on board, so the seating was quite comfortable. However, along the way, the bus conductor kept picking up passengers along the way from Ninh Binh to Ha Nam province. As a result, the bus became more and more crowded.

“The bus was full, so the bus conductor quickly arranged plastic chairs along the aisle to ‘stuff’ more passengers. When we reached Phu Ly city, the driver kept pulling over to the side of the road and passengers kept getting on,” Binh shared.

According to this student, the normal ticket price from Ninh Binh to Hanoi is only 100,000 VND, but this afternoon the bus company "charged" the same price as "customers" traveling from Thanh Liem district or Phu Ly city to the capital.

“When passengers asked about the ticket price, the bus conductor said that all buses had increased prices and that if they didn’t go, they would get off. Worried that there wouldn’t be any buses, we had to accept the reality of high ticket prices and being overcharged during this time,” Binh said.

Bus stations are determined not to allow passenger vehicles that do not meet standards or quality and charge higher than the regulated fare during the upcoming National Day holiday on September 2.

Similarly, Mr. Tran Nam Khanh (Viet Hung commune, Truc Ninh district, Nam Dinh) also took a bus to Giap Bat bus station right in front of his house.

Every time a car passed by, Mr. Khanh would wave his hand to pick up passengers, however, the driver would shake his hand and go straight because he could not squeeze more people into the car.

Waiting for three buses to pass, Mr. Khanh was delighted when the bus pulled over to the side of the road. The bus door opened, and he was startled to see that the aisle and cabin area were packed with passengers.

“The bus attendant hurriedly pushed me up and told the passengers inside to try to sit neatly so that more seats could be made for the new passengers. Even though the air conditioner was on at full capacity, the bus was hot due to the large number of people. The bus was a 35-seat bus but the number of people in the bus had to be one and a half times that. On top of that, the ticket price also increased by 120,000 VND, 20,000 VND higher than usual,” Mr. Khanh sighed.

At My Dinh Bus Station, buses from Lao Cai, Ha Giang, and Phu Tho continuously lined up to transport passengers to the station. Along Pham Van Dong and Pham Hung streets, the number of vehicles was dense and when reaching red light intersections, there was local congestion. Authorities were on duty to regulate and direct traffic to "cool down" the congestion.

Evenly distributed customers, no congestion

A representative of My Dinh Bus Station said that because tomorrow is the working day after the holiday, a lot of people will flock to the capital this afternoon. The number of passengers will be distributed evenly this afternoon and tomorrow morning. There will be times when many buses will arrive at the station, leading to congestion, but it will be quickly cleared up.

However, My Dinh Bus Station has mobilized 100% of its staff to serve passengers, arranged staff to operate at the station entrance, and coordinated with the Traffic Police, Traffic Inspectorate, and Ward Police to ensure traffic order and safety.

Commenting on the number of passengers arriving in the capital this afternoon, according to Mr. Vuong Duy Toan, Deputy Director of Giap Bat Bus Station, out-of-province passengers arriving in Hanoi were scattered from yesterday afternoon and today, so they did not arrive in large numbers at the same time and there was no congestion.

To facilitate people's travel, the Traffic Police Department has requested 100% of officers and soldiers to be on duty, maintain the management area, and ensure safe and smooth traffic.

“Up to this point of the National Day holiday on September 2 (from the afternoon of August 30 to September 2), the number of passengers arriving at Giap Bat bus station is about 40,000 people. During the holiday, the bus station added more than 300 buses. The number of passengers arriving at the station compared to normal days increased by 300%. During the holidays, Giap Bat bus station ensures 100% of its staff on duty at all locations, functional forces of the ward police, Hoang Mai district, traffic inspectors and Traffic Police Team No. 14 are on duty around the station to ensure traffic safety, even when the number of passengers arriving at the station is the highest,” Mr. Toan affirmed.

Traffic at the gateway to the Phap Van-Cau Gie Expressway and the elevated Ring Road 3 is smooth because the authorities have been stationed at the Phap Van toll station to regulate a large number of cars entering National Highway 1 so that vehicles do not converge at this intersection like every year.

To ensure traffic flow to welcome vehicles from the provinces to the capital after the National Day holiday on September 2, the leader of the Hanoi Department of Transport Inspectorate informed that the unit has coordinated with the Traffic Police Department (Hanoi City Police) to deploy 100% of its personnel to be on duty at the gateway traffic routes of the capital and will be maintained until the end of the peak season.
