Which industry is seriously lacking in human resources?

The labor market in the first two months of 2025 recorded a large recruitment gap between industries. Some industries have a serious shortage of human resources, while many industries have a surplus of labor, increasing competition and making it difficult for businesses to recruit.

That is the information from the "Summary of Vietnam 's labor market in early 2025" report of the online job platform Vieclam24, after this unit surveyed workers and businesses in early March about the labor market in the first two months of the year.

Recruitment demand increases

According to this survey, in January and February, the Vietnamese labor market recorded positive signs of recovery compared to the same period in 2024. Accordingly, recruitment demand increased by 19% compared to the previous year. However, this increase has not been matched by labor supply, as job search demand has not been met evenly across industries.

The sectors with the highest recruitment demand include retail and trade, real estate and construction, and manufacturing and processing, accounting for nearly 60% of the total number of vacancies. Notably, the sales and business sector continues to lead in the number of recruitments, reflecting the trend of businesses expanding their markets and revenue.

Meanwhile, the processing and manufacturing industry increased recruitment by 41% compared to the same period last year, but still had difficulty finding skilled workers. In particular, the textile, footwear and fashion sector had a 7% increase in recruitment demand, but the number of job seekers decreased by 18%.

The real estate and construction industry is currently thriving with a recruitment increase of over 40% compared to the same period last year. Notably, according to a survey, more than 50% of workers in this industry are looking for new job opportunities , creating a strong shift in personnel.

Similarly, more than 50% of workers in the accounting and auditing profession are also looking for new jobs, showing that personnel fluctuations in this field are still quite large.

Recruitment demand in the logistics and supply chain industry increased by about 35%, while the number of job seekers also increased by more than 30%.

According to Vieclam24, the IT industry saw a slight 2% decrease in recruitment demand in the first two months of the year, while the number of job seekers increased by 18%. However, salaries for software IT positions are still among the highest in the market and businesses are still "thirsty" for high-quality human resources .

Many candidates are not ready to upgrade new skills

According to Ms. Dao Thu Phuong, CEO of Sieu Viet Group - Vieclam24h, the current labor market records a large difference in recruitment between industries. Some industries have a serious shortage of human resources, while many industries have a surplus of labor, increasing competition and making it difficult for businesses to recruit.

The skills gap is also increasingly evident as businesses require high expertise and soft skills such as critical thinking, teamwork, etc. However, in the fields of data analysis, technology, logistics, and business, despite high recruitment demand, businesses still have difficulty finding suitable candidates.

Ms. Phuong said that rapidly developing technology creates demand for new skills , while many candidates are not ready to upgrade or do not have access to appropriate training, further prolonging the gap between labor supply and demand, especially in industries requiring highly skilled workers.

"Businesses should invest heavily in retraining and upgrading skills to help workers from surplus industries move to high-demand fields. In addition, cooperation between businesses and universities and colleges during the training process will help students acquire practical skills while still in school, shortening the gap between training and actual recruitment," Ms. Phuong suggested.
