Recently, regarding celebrities whose advertisements violate regulations on dietary supplements, the Food Safety Department has requested the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information and the Department of Grassroots Culture (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) to coordinate in checking information and handling violations, promptly preventing violations in food advertising.
A leader of the Food Safety Department said that there is currently no regulation requiring celebrities to use product experience before advertising functional foods and health protection foods. However, functional foods and special products, health-related products always have their own regulations and conditions regarding quality standards and regulations on advertising content.

"Therefore, individuals participating in advertising health-related products such as functional foods need to clearly understand information about licensed products; and can only advertise content that has been confirmed by competent authorities. In addition to that content, advertisers who add content that is inconsistent with the nature of the product are in violation," the leader of the Food Safety Department especially noted.
Correcting advertising violations
According to the Food Safety Department, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has recently taken strong action against violations in advertising functional foods related to celebrities, issuing a code of conduct, which has been effective in correcting violations.
After the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued a written reminder, there are currently very few images of famous people participating in functional food advertisements on social networks, most of which are old clips that can be edited and re-broadcast.
"Previously, there was a case where a TV station's MC participated in advertising the product. The department also sent a document to the TV station and they immediately took corrective action," said a leader of the Food Safety Department.
According to the assessment of the representative of the Food Safety Department, the phenomenon of celebrities participating in advertising functional foods in violation of regulations has been basically controlled. In particular, with the code of conduct, celebrities with social activities have also understood and complied with that code. The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism continue to maintain coordination in correcting violations of health-related food advertising.
For users, the Food Safety Department also recommends that, in order to avoid falling into the "trap" of baseless advertisements, they should carefully research the product before deciding to buy and only buy functional foods from reliable sources. At the same time, do not be fooled by fancy advertisements or images of celebrities on the internet.
