Customs sector: Budget revenue in the first two months of the year increased by nearly 9% over the same period

(PLVN) - According to preliminary data from the Customs Department (Ministry of Finance), the total import-export turnover of goods in February reached 63.77 billion USD, up 0.8% (equivalent to an increase of 519 million USD) compared to the previous month. Of which, exports reached 31.11 billion USD, down 6.3% (equivalent to a decrease of 2.08 billion USD) and import value reached 32.66 billion USD, up 8.6% (equivalent to an increase of 2.6 billion USD). Vietnam's trade balance of goods in February 2025 had a deficit of 1.55 billion USD.

In the first two months, the total import-export turnover of the country reached 127.07 billion USD, up 12% (equivalent to an increase of 13.57 billion USD) compared to the same period last year. Of which, exports reached 64.27 billion USD, up 8.4% (equivalent to an increase of 4.95 billion USD) and imports reached 62.80 billion USD, up 15.9% (equivalent to an increase of 8.61 billion USD). Vietnam's trade balance of goods in the first two months had a surplus of 1.47 billion USD.

Regarding state budget collection, in February, the whole industry collected 33,430 billion VND, an increase of 19.9% ​​compared to the previous month. The reason for the increase in revenue is that the total taxable import-export turnover of the whole country in February 2025 increased by 12.6% compared to the previous month.

Accumulated from the beginning of the year to the end of February, the Customs sector collected 61,303 billion VND in budget revenue, equal to 14.92% of the assigned estimate, up 8.91% over the same period last year.

By the end of February, among 35 local customs departments, there were 2 units that collected over 10,000 billion VND in budget revenue: Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department (now Region II Customs Branch) collected 17,387 billion VND, equal to 13.37% of the annual estimate, up 2.99% over the same period last year; Hai Phong Customs Department (now Region III Customs Branch) collected 12,919 billion VND, equal to 17.94% of the annual estimate, up sharply 38.44% over the same period last year.

Regarding smuggling, trade fraud and illegal transportation of goods across the border, in February, the Customs discovered, arrested and handled 1,010 cases; the value of the violated goods was estimated at over VND 1,328 billion. The Customs transferred 12 cases to other agencies for prosecution; at the same time, over VND 38 billion was collected for the budget.

In the first two months of the year, the Customs sector detected, arrested and handled 2,440 cases of customs law violations, with an estimated value of infringing goods of over VND2,790 billion. The Customs sector has transferred 19 cases to other agencies for prosecution; collected over VND133 billion for the budget.

In particular, within just 15 days since Decree 29/2025/ND-CP and Decision 382/QD-BTC regulating the new customs organization model took effect (March 1, 2025), on March 15, 2025, the Customs Department actively prepared and officially deployed the new organizational model throughout the entire Customs system and reconfigured the information technology system according to the new organizational model. As a result, on March 15 - the first day of operation under the new model (including 12 units under the Department, 20 regional customs sub-departments (reducing 485/902 focal points, equivalent to 53.77%), the entire Customs sector processed 20,300 declarations, with a total import-export turnover of 1.05 billion USD.

In 2025, the Customs Department said it will strive to achieve the target of reducing at least 30% of administrative procedure processing time, reducing at least 30% of administrative procedure implementation costs, abolishing at least 30% of unnecessary business conditions; implementing business-related procedures in the electronic environment, ensuring smoothness, continuity, and efficiency.
