On March 19, Dong Nai Department of Agriculture and Environment reported the initial results of environmental survey and monitoring at Bien Hoa 1 Industrial Park.
Accordingly, the results of monitoring and observing waste sources and environmental components in Bien Hoa 1 Industrial Park recently showed increased signs of pollution.
Specifically, regarding the quality of surface water, monitoring results over recent years for the Dong Nai River flowing through Bien Hoa 1 Industrial Park (from the confluence of the Dong Nai River and Suoi Linh to Dong Nai Bridge) show that the surface water quality is at an average level due to organic and microbiological pollution with a fairly high frequency of pollution detection, especially in the dry season.
Regarding air quality, small dust parameters exceeded standards at some monitoring times with pollution detection frequency concentrated from February to June (dry season, transition between dry season and rainy season).
In addition, at night there is often a foul odor characteristic of the chemical production, metallurgy and metal processing industries.
Regarding soil quality, there are signs of local pollution in the area next to the lake (near the drainage on Tran Quoc Toan Street, Ward 1, An Binh Ward, Bien Hoa City).
Also according to the Dong Nai Department of Agriculture and Environment, taking advantage of the relocation of production and business establishments out of Bien Hoa 1 Industrial Park, some subjects deliberately dumped and buried waste within the industrial park.
Up to now, there have been 3 cases discovered with signs of criminal violations. The police have taken the lead in coordinating with relevant agencies to investigate, verify, handle and remedy environmental pollution.
From the above environmental monitoring results, Dong Nai Department of Agriculture and Environment determined that the risk of pollution and negative impacts on the environment is quite high, and it is necessary to urgently convert the function of Bien Hoa 1 Industrial Park into an urban - commercial - service area and improve the environment.
At the same time, mobilizing resources to invest in the project of collecting and treating domestic wastewater (capacity of over 100,000 m3/day) of Bien Hoa city according to the planning approved by the province is an extremely necessary task in the current period.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment continues to coordinate with the Dong Nai Industrial Park Management Board and Bien Hoa City People's Committee to monitor and inspect about 73 enterprises in Bien Hoa 1 Industrial Park.
Thereby, promptly and strictly handling detected violations, not allowing environmental pollution to recur (expected to be completed before March 31).
