On July 3, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin met on the sidelines of the 24th Summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Speaking at the meeting, Xi Jinping called on the two countries to continue to preserve the special value of China-Russia relations and jointly explore the intrinsic driving force of bilateral cooperation.
The Chinese leader also said that in the face of changing world situations, the two countries need to continue to maintain long-standing friendship and make efforts to protect the basic norms governing international relations.
Besides, assessing the Astana Summit as the most important event of the year for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed his willingness to hold comprehensive talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and other leaders of SCO member countries on measures to strengthen the organization and enhance cooperation in various fields.
For his part, Russian President Vladimir Putin assessed that Russia-China relations are built on the principles of equality and mutual respect.
Mr. Putin also recalled his state visit to China in May and thanked the Chinese side for the warm welcome. The Russian President's state visit to China took place from May 16-17.
Besides, Russian President Vladimir Putin was pleased with the growth of trade between Russia and China, saying that positive momentum was recorded in trade turnover in the first half of this year.
The joint efforts are now aimed at consistently implementing the plan for the development of key areas of China-Russia economic cooperation until 2030, which was agreed upon by the two sides during Xi Jinping's visit to Moscow in March 2023.
