Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Ben Burrowes - Asia regional director of Education New Zealand (ENZ) - shared that one of the goals of New Zealand international education in the 2024-2025 school year is to diversify the student source.
Currently, the majority of international students coming to New Zealand are from China and India. Therefore, New Zealand's big goal is to expand the student markets coming to New Zealand from Southeast Asia, especially from Vietnam.
Mr. Ben Burrowes added that in the 2024 - 2025 academic year, New Zealand will develop a strategy to continue raising awareness of New Zealand's education provision in Vietnam, and this will be done through a variety of methods.
In particular, New Zealand will increase scholarships for Vietnamese students. In particular, New Zealand maintains the government scholarship for secondary school students for Vietnamese students (NZSS). Currently, only Vietnamese students are awarded the NZSS scholarship.
In 2024, the NZSS program selected 14 successful candidates from Vietnam. The program also received many quality applications from students across the country to compete for the prestigious high school scholarship opportunity in New Zealand, with the application form via video, encouraging students to demonstrate their creativity and potential.
Students will begin their studies at quality New Zealand secondary schools in July 2024 or January 2025.
In addition, according to Director Ben Burrowes, a highlight of the New Zealand scholarship program for Vietnam in 2024 is the dual scholarship mechanism. Candidates can both study in Vietnam and transfer to study at leading New Zealand schools.

Specifically, Vietnamese students from grades 8 to 10 can apply for scholarships. They will receive a 50% reduction in tuition fees in the first year. New Zealand's favor is due to the impressive academic results of Vietnamese international students, and the outstanding members of Vietnamese students in the New Zealand community.
Mr. Scott James - Consul General and Commercial Counselor of New Zealand in Vietnam - said that the New Zealand Government scholarships will strengthen development cooperation on the basis of mutual respect and understanding between Vietnam and New Zealand.
He hopes that the scholarship winners will make the most of this opportunity to learn, experience and develop themselves in New Zealand, making a positive contribution to their classrooms and local communities.
According to Mr. Scott James, Vietnam is an extremely important partner, certainly in the next financial year and in the future. Specifically, the government has asked to focus on New Zealand's vision, to bring students to New Zealand to study.
