Since 2017, the province has issued many specialized resolutions, programs and plans to promote forestry advantages with a consistent viewpoint: Taking forest management, protection, development and people's health as the top goal. Sustainable forestry development goes hand in hand with planting, caring for, protecting upstream forests, protecting the environment, preventing and combating natural disasters, responding to climate change, harmonizing socio-economic development goals, ensuring national defense and security, conserving biodiversity and gradually increasing forest cover, forest environmental service value and increasing people's income.

Currently, the whole province has over 464,000 hectares of forest land; 103,000 hectares of forest have been assigned to organizations, families, individuals and communities for management. In order to promote the advantages of forestry, the Provincial Party Committee issued Resolution 16 on sustainable forestry development, period 2021 - 2025; The Provincial People's Council issued Resolution 29 on policies to encourage the development of commodity agricultural production. In particular, support of 5 million VND/ha for planting production forests with good seedlings (acacia), 8 million VND/ha for planting forests with large timber trees. Not only that, implementing Plan 85 on breakthrough economic forest planting according to the policy of the Provincial People's Council, the Forestry sector has made a breakthrough in intensive economic forest planting using good seedlings, developing the forest economy with new thinking, making forestry a main occupation in the potential area. For highland districts, mainly plant Sa moc, Thong, Tong qua su, Lat trees; for lowland districts, focus on planting economic forests with trees such as Acacia, Cinnamon, Anise, Xoan, Mo, Bo De...

From 2017 to now, the whole province has planted more than 32,200 hectares of concentrated forests; using good varieties accounts for 34.6% of the total planted forest area. Of which, the state supports the planting of more than 6,700 hectares, the remaining area is planted by people and 3 forestry companies after exploitation. To date, the whole province has 9,162.47 hectares of forest certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), concentrated in 2 districts: Bac Quang (8,186.6 hectares) and Vi Xuyen (975.87 hectares). Thereby, forming a sustainable raw material area according to the forest management and protection standards of the World Forestry Council; opening up great opportunities for forest growers to export wood to international markets and enjoy economic value 10-15% higher than forests not certified by the FSC. On the other hand, the whole province has mobilized nearly 1,200 billion VND to carry out the task of forest management, protection and development; at the same time, attracting 9 non-budget projects to support investment in the forestry sector. On this basis, many projects have been implemented, contributing to creating breakthroughs in forestry production such as: Planting high-tech economic forests and establishing a chain linkage model in forestry production associated with environmental protection in Quang Binh and Xin Man districts; nurturing and planting medicinal plants Ngoc Linh ginseng under the forest canopy of Vi Xuyen district; linking planting, processing and consuming wood in Quang Binh district...

Along with the work of planting, caring for and protecting forests; the wood processing industry of our province has gradually shifted from a traditional small scale to a commodity production oriented towards investment and support from the State; applying advanced science, technology, techniques, investing in machinery to support production, resulting in many high-quality wood products. Up to now, the whole province has 190 wood processing facilities and wood products, most concentrated in Bac Quang, Quang Binh and Vi Xuyen districts. The main products include: Plywood, compressed wood pellets, peeled wood, household wooden wood... In the period of 2018 - 2022, the total export value of forest products (mainly peeled wood) reached more than 30.4 million USD. Typically, Thai Hoang Construction and Trading Joint Stock Company, Nam Quang Industrial Park (Bac Quang) produces nearly 27,000 m3 of plywood/year with total sales revenue of nearly 250 billion VND; export turnover accounts for 84%. The enterprise has fulfilled its tax obligations to the State; creating many jobs for local workers.

According to the assessment of the professional sector: Important policies of the provincial Party Committee and government coming into life have created momentum to promote sustainable forestry development. The situation of deforestation and encroachment on natural forests for afforestation is basically controlled; the area of protective forests is strictly managed and protected; the work of planning, protecting and developing forests is initially synchronous, consistent with the land use planning and socio-economic development planning of the province. The entire area of existing natural forests is strictly managed and protected, contributing to increasing the forest cover of the province from 55.57% (in 2017) to 58.58% at present. The average production value of the forestry sector reaches more than 1,500 billion VND/year, accounting for 10 - 11% in the structure of the agricultural, forestry and fishery sector.

With the viewpoint: "Taking people's health protection as the top priority", "Not trading the environment for economic growth"; currently, our province continues to mobilize the participation of the entire political system and people in sustainable forestry development, synchronously implementing solutions on: Strengthening state management, enhancing forest economic value, creating sustainable livelihoods for people; mobilizing resources to protect and develop sustainable forests; applying science and technology in forest management, protection, development and enhancing forestry economic value. Striving by 2025: Increase forest coverage to 60%; increase the total area of FSC-certified forests to 15,600 hectares; strive for an average planted forest productivity of 80 - 120 m3/ha/7-year cycle; forestry production value reaches 20% in the value structure of the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector.
