Muong Lat district has over 40,684 people, with 6 ethnic groups living together, of which ethnic minorities account for over 90%. Together with the people's leadership in economic development, hunger eradication and poverty reduction, in recent years, the district has promoted propaganda and mobilized people to preserve traditional cultural values of ethnic groups.

Accordingly, the district coordinated with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to restore the Xen Ban Festival of the Kho Mu ethnic group; surveyed and searched for documents about Tu Ma Temple and built a temple to worship General Tu Ma Hai Dao in Muong Lat town, and at the same time mobilized people to discover, collect and donate artifacts related to Tu Ma Hai Dao Temple. The results were the discovery of 1 gong, 1 sword, 1 incense burner related to General Tu Ma Hai Dao. Along with that, the district participated in competitions and art performances of ethnic groups organized by the province. Strengthened propaganda and mobilization work to preserve and conserve traditional cultural values, associated with ethnic cultural activities, and built cultural life. Focused on preserving intangible cultural forms, with policies and regimes for artisans, individuals and families who have contributed to preserving and maintaining ethnic cultural assets. Traditional art troupes have been established in the areas and villages. Currently, 50/88 villages and areas have art troupes participating in activities organized by the villages and areas and participating in competitions organized by the communes and towns.
Every year, the district organizes competitions to maintain festivals, games, folk performances, ethnic props, cuisine, etc.; coordinates with Hong Duc University, the Provincial Border Guard Command, the Provincial Military Command to organize classes to teach Thai and Mong languages for cadres and people. At the same time, directs schools in the area to organize propaganda and widely disseminate the cultural heritage system of the district to all students through the main and extracurricular curriculum. Since then, many games and folk performances have been restored and preserved such as: khap, danh mang, hop sap, khua luong, con throwing, gong playing, crossbow shooting, tug of war of the Thai ethnic group; pao throwing, cu playing, trumpet blowing of the Mong ethnic group; cap sac ceremony of the Dao ethnic group... Through the preservation and promotion of traditional cultural features, the movement to build cultural villages and build cultural life in residential areas has been promoted.
In order to gradually change the funeral practices of the Mong ethnic group, in recent years, the Provincial Ethnic Committee has coordinated with Muong Lat district to promote the dissemination of the Project "Implementing cultural lifestyles in funerals in the Mong ethnic group". Therefore, people are gradually organizing funerals and weddings in a new, simple, economical and healthy way.
