Plan to proactively evacuate people

Faced with major damage caused by floods, localities have mobilized forces to support people in moving their belongings from flooded areas and areas at high risk of landslides to safe places; put up warning signs, assigned guards, provided guidance, and diverted traffic at landslide-affected areas.

Director of the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) Pham Duc Luan said that in order to proactively respond to the complicated developments of heavy rain, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has sent an official dispatch requesting departments, branches and localities to closely monitor forecasts and warnings about heavy rain, floods, flash floods and landslides; promptly and fully notify authorities at all levels and people to proactively prevent, respond and minimize damage.

In parallel with overcoming the damage caused by floods, localities must also deploy shock troops to inspect and review residential areas along rivers, streams, and low-lying areas at high risk of flooding, flash floods, and landslides. At the same time, proactively clear the flow, organize the relocation and evacuation of people in dangerous areas to safety.

According to Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Van Quyen, in the face of unpredictable natural disasters, the Department is continuing to direct riverside localities to focus on deploying shock troops to inspect and review residential areas along rivers, streams, low-lying areas and areas at high risk of flooding to proactively organize the relocation and evacuation of people in dangerous areas to safe places.

The Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development also requested localities to arrange forces, materials and means to overcome incidents, ensure smooth traffic on main traffic routes when heavy rain occurs; units arrange permanent forces to be ready with flood prevention plans, ensure dyke safety according to the alarm level.

According to the Office of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Control and Search and Rescue of Hanoi City , on the afternoon of August 24, there was heavy rain with severe thunder and lightning in Hanoi.
