Due to heavy rain, 4 households near Mang Ka Muong mountain (Son Bao commune, Son Ha district, Quang Ngai province) had to relocate, while some roads in Quang Ngai city were deeply flooded.
Over the past 24 hours, Quang Ngai province has had moderate to heavy rain. Rainfall ranges from 50mm to 150mm, with heavier rain in some places such as Tra Phu 152mm, Tra Nham (Tra Bong district) 166mm, Son Mua (Son Tay district) 153mm.
On the evening of October 8, in Son Bao commune (Son Ha district, Quang Ngai province), it was raining heavily, with a high risk of landslides on Mang Ka Muong mountain, Nuoc Tang village, Son Bao commune.
Son Bao Commune People's Committee has mobilized 4 households in the landslide-prone area to temporarily stay at relatives' houses to ensure safety.
In the coming time, people are advised to limit travel in this area to ensure safety.
During the inspection on October 3 by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Ngai province, the cracks on Mang Ka Muong mountain are showing signs of spreading in an arc shape. Initially, the cracks only slid 1.5m, now from 2-2.3m or more.
From the DH77 road point to the top of the mountain, there are cracks up to 60m long, some sections are 45m long, the mountainside is cracked horizontally, the area directly affected is more than 1,500m2 of land.
* On the evening of October 8, heavy rain lasting for many hours caused some roads in Quang Ngai city to be deeply flooded.
Streets in the center of Quang Ngai city such as Quang Trung, Tran Hung Dao, Hung Vuong, Phan Dinh Phung, Phan Chu Trinh, Nguyen Nghiem, and Vo Thi Sau were flooded.
Mr. Nham Xuan Sy, Director of the Quang Ngai Province Hydrometeorological Station, said that in the coming hours, Quang Ngai province will continue to have moderate to heavy rain. Total rainfall is commonly from 40mm - 120mm, in some places over 150mm.
“Heavy rain can cause flash floods and landslides in areas with weak terrain, construction sites on steep mountain slopes, and localized flooding on roads and low-lying areas,” said Mr. Sy.
