Feast your eyes on 400 million year old schist in Quang Nam

(Dan Tri) - The 400 million year old amphibole schist, belonging to the Ban Than - Hon Mang - Hon Dua Scenic Area, Tam Hai Island Commune, Nui Thanh District, Quang Nam has just been ranked as a National Monument.

Recently, Nui Thanh district, Quang Nam held a ceremony to receive the National Monument ranking certificate "Ban Than - Hon Mang - Hon Dua Scenic Landscape" in Tam Hai island commune. This place has impressive dark slate cliffs; wide, long, clean beaches, clear blue sea water; cool coconut groves; gentle people, rich marine products. The core value of the whole area is the layers of slate jutting out to the sea. Slate is distributed in the high hills north of Tam Hai island commune, north of Tam Quang commune's cape; in the strip of rocky beaches and rocky islands in An Hoa lagoon, typically Ban Than, Hon Mang and Hon Dua.

Ban Than mountain range belongs to Hon Mang and Hon Dua islands. Here, amphibole schist is mainly exposed, with some quartz-biotite schist interspersed in some places. In the photo, moss clings to the rock fragments, creating unique shapes, impressing visitors when they come here to visit.

Although the slate here is as black as the rocks on Ly Son Island (Quang Ngai), scientists and leading geologists believe that the rocks on Ban Than and the islands of Hon Mang and Hon Dua are original rocks that are up to 400 million years old, pushed up above the sea level by a geological tectonic event. Mr. Le Van Sinh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Nui Thanh District, affirmed: "The majestic natural landscape around has made the rocks here become unique slate rocks in Vietnam and among the most beautiful in the world."

Ban Than - Hon Mang - Hon Dua are considered as natural museums, reflecting the geological development process. Therefore, this is an interesting place to visit, study and research the history of geological development.

To protect and effectively exploit this valuable heritage, over the past 20 years, local authorities have promoted and mobilized fishermen to participate in activities to learn about the value of coral reefs, clean beaches; establish core patrol teams to monitor compliance with regulations on exploitation and capture of aquatic resources in the locality.

Ban Than - Hon Mang - Hon Dua relic is an area with beautiful natural landscape, the environment here still retains its wildness, with flat slate cliffs of impressive sparkling jet-black color. The slate here is not only exposed on a large scale but also worn very sharply by the waves and wind. On the surface of the cliffs and stone steps, there are strange, attractive lines like ancient characters, stone veins. The differentiation process has made the color of the slate files sparkle, like a block of banknotes...

This is a place that attracts tourists to take photos and check in. In 2017, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province ranked the Ban Than - Hon Mang - Hon Dua relic as a provincial relic.
