Tran Doan (born in 1997, from Thai Nguyen) is currently an office worker at a company in Cau Giay district, Hanoi. With a salary of 5 million VND/month, he learned how to calculate to ensure a balance between maintaining living expenses in an expensive city and still pursuing his passion for traveling everywhere.

“I spend half of my salary on travel activities and save the other half. In addition to my fixed salary, I also receive about 2.4 million VND in monthly travel, food and housing allowances from the company as well as bonuses on holidays and Tet, so I use that money to cover living expenses and expenses for longer, longer trips,” the 9X shared.

Tran Doan said that before he "fell in love" with mountain climbing 2 years ago, he had taken many trips across 63 provinces and cities, including 4 trips across Vietnam by motorbike, with the most recent trip being in early 2024.

On this trip, he also climbed 20 peaks in the South, officially extending the list to a total of 60 peaks successfully conquered across the country. There are peaks that he has climbed many times without getting bored, such as Ta Xua (5 times), Lung Cung (3 times), Ta Chi Nhu and Ky Quan San (2 times).

Up to now, the young man from Thai Nguyen has conquered 60 mountain peaks in Vietnam, including the highest peaks such as: Fansipan (3,143m) - Sapa, Lao Cai; Pu Si Lung (3,080m) - Muong Te, Lai Chau; Pu Ta Leng (3,049m) - Tam Duong, Lai Chau; Ky Quan San (3,046m) - Bat Xat, Lao Cai...

Tran Doan shared that each mountain peak has its own beauty and the scenery changes with the seasons. For example, Ta Xua has moss forests, Ta Chi Nhu has chi pau flowers or Pu Ta Leng impresses with its beautiful rhododendron forest.

Of the dozens of trips, the 9X remembers most the time he climbed Ta Chi Nhu peak (Yen Bai) alone at night at the end of 2022 to bring medicine to a sick friend.

“My friend climbed ahead, got a cold when he reached the hut and couldn’t find any medicine. It was dark at that time, I planned to stay in town for the night. But when I received a call from my friend, I decided to take the medicine and move that night,” Doan recalled.

Rhododendron flowers are in full bloom, spreading their bright purple-pink color across an area on Tim Na Noi mountain (2,800m), located in Na Noi village, Than Thuoc commune, Tan Uyen district, Lai Chau.

The young man revealed that he usually climbs mountains on the weekends. On holidays and long vacations such as April 30 – May 1 or New Year, he asks for a few more days off to conquer many peaks in the same trip.

There were trips where he climbed 7 peaks in 5 days, or 6 days to explore 8 peaks.

“With peaks that have favorable terrain, gentle climbing routes and locations that are not too far apart, I can combine conquering many peaks in a row in the same trip,” he said.

Because he practiced sports since childhood and had many years of experience traveling, the 9X Thai Nguyen did not encounter too many difficulties when pursuing his passion for mountain climbing and trekking.

Regarding the cost, the 9X revealed that each mountain climbing and trekking trip does not cost too much, only ranging from 1 to 2 million VND, including food and accommodation. Tourists often sleep in tents, sleep in shacks, proactively bring food and drinks or order a meal with some local dishes from the locals when climbing the mountain, so the cost is affordable.

In some cases, he also takes on the role of tour guide, leading groups and supporting tourists throughout the climbing process to share or earn extra money.

According to Doan, tourists can also register for a tour with a guide and porter to help them not lose strength while climbing the mountain but still have a great experience.

In addition, depending on the needs and preferences of each person, visitors can buy additional specialized items for mountain climbing and trekking such as: Shoes, anti-slip gloves, backpacks... These items are quite durable, bought once, can be used many times, on many trips.

In the upcoming climbing season, Tran Doan aims to conquer 75 peaks. “Climbing is not a journey to conquer, but a walk from one peak to another,” he said.
