Summer-autumn rice sells like hotcakes
Since early morning, the bustling atmosphere of summer-autumn rice harvest has spread throughout the fields of Cam Xuyen district. Mr. Phan Dang Hai's family (Cam Vinh commune, Cam Xuyen district) planted nearly 1 hectare of rice field, and now the harvest is basically complete.
Mr. Phan Dang Hai sold 2.5 tons of rice to traders at the field for 6,300 VND/kg.
Mr. Hai excitedly said: “In the summer-autumn crop, my family mainly produces Khang Dan 18 variety. The rice is beautiful and the grains are full, so the yield is high, reaching more than 3 quintals/sao. After I finished harvesting, traders asked to buy 2.5 tons of fresh rice right at the field. Khang Dan 18 rice is currently sold at 6,300 VND/kg, quite high compared to many years ago."
Taking advantage of favorable weather, Ha Tinh farmers mobilized machinery to speed up the harvest.
In Can Loc district, key production communes such as Thanh Loc, Xuan Loc, Quang Loc, Khanh Vinh Yen..., farmers are also mobilizing human and material resources to urgently harvest rice. The main local varieties are mainly: Khang Dan mutation, Nep 98, Nep 87... At this time, the price of fresh rice is at a high level, so many households have sold large quantities to traders early, instead of bringing them home to dry.
Mr. Nguyen Van Ty is happy with the good harvest and good prices.
Mr. Nguyen Van Ty (Thanh Loc commune, Can Loc district) shared: “This year's rice purchasing activities are much busier than the 2022 summer crop. In this field alone, every day, more than 4 traders with trucks come to the field to collect goods. I finished harvesting 7 sao of Nep 98, the output was nearly 2.1 tons, all sold out at a price of 5,800 - 6,000 VND/kg. What's more fortunate is that we don't have to find people to sell to, after harvesting, there are people asking to buy immediately. In total, right after harvesting, I earned nearly 12 million VND."
Currently, localities have entered the peak harvest season, making the atmosphere of purchasing raw materials even more exciting. According to farmers' assessments, the selling prices of all types of rice in the 2023 summer-autumn crop have increased compared to last year and reached the highest level in the past 2 years. In particular, some types of rice such as Khang Dan 18, Xuan Mai 12... "swim against the current" when the price increased by an average of 1,800 - 2,100 VND/kg compared to the previous summer-autumn crop and are among the varieties with the highest selling prices in this year's summer-autumn crop.
Mr. Le Dang The (Thach Van commune, Thach Ha district) said: "I have never seen summer-autumn rice sold at such a high price as this year. The price of fresh Khang Dan 18 rice is being purchased by traders at 6,500 VND/kg while last year it was only 4,400 - 4,500 VND/kg. The demand is high, so we are not forced to lower prices, raise prices or have businesses "run away" like before. I am focusing on speeding up the harvest to take advantage of the best selling time."
Thanks to the early harvest, Mr. Le Dang The's rice was bought by traders at 6,500 VND/kg.
Traders take advantage of importing goods
Along with the bustling atmosphere, farmers are rushing to harvest their crops, with convoys of trucks and tractors of traders stopping at the edge of the fields waiting to "buy goods". Not only traders in the province, many trucks from other provinces such as Thanh Hoa and Nghe An also come and go continuously to purchase and supply to the Northern market.
Ms. Le Thi Chinh's rice gathering area is bustling with people exchanging and trading.
At the rice storage area of Ms. Le Thi Chinh (Thanh Loc commune, Can Loc district), there are 1-2 large trucks arriving to import goods every day. Ms. Chinh said: "Currently, I can buy about 40 tons of rice every day at 5,800 VND/kg. The glutinous rice crop is good and the price is good, so buying and selling is easier. When we have enough goods, we notify the truck owner to come and transport them immediately."
Traders' trucks and tractors stopped at the edge of the fields to collect rice.
The purchasing process has been smooth, up to now, Hanh Cuong Cooperative (Thach Binh commune, Ha Tinh city) has imported over 1,000 tons of rice from farmers, mainly in Thach Ha and Cam Xuyen districts... Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh - Director of Hanh Cuong Cooperative shared: "We are purchasing dry rice at 7,000 VND/kg, fresh rice at 5,800 - 6,300 VND/kg depending on the variety and quality. This price is higher than last year, so people are very excited. From now until the end of the season, we will purchase as much as we have. We will export the rice to the northern provinces such as Hung Yen, Hai Duong, Thai Binh, Ha Nam...".
As the largest rice production and processing enterprise in the province, KC Ha Tinh Company implements a closed process, from providing seeds and fertilizers to purchasing rice products for Ha Tinh farmers. The company has a raw material area of more than 500 hectares across the province. In the summer-autumn crop of 2023, KC Ha Tinh Company has purchased about more than 400 tons of fresh rice.
“The purchase of fresh rice products not only helps farmers avoid a drying step, reducing harvesting costs, but businesses are also proactive in controlling the quality of output products according to standards, meeting the requirements of partners as well as the market,” said Mr. Nguyen Khanh Tung, Director of KC Ha Tinh Company.
Fresh rice prices in Ha Tinh market are at a high level.
According to businesses and traders, the price of rice this summer-autumn crop is relatively good, consistent across varieties. Depending on the different rice varieties, the price is different, ranging from 5,800 - 6,300 VND/kg. The increase in rice prices is mainly due to the bustling rice market nationwide, the demand for goods collection by large wholesalers has increased. In addition, many countries in the world have increased their rice reserves, the strong development of the export market has also pushed up domestic rice prices in general and Ha Tinh prices compared to previous years.
According to the assessment of professional agencies, the average summer-autumn rice yield in the province this year is estimated at 50.28 quintals/ha (equivalent to the summer-autumn crop in 2022), with an estimated output of 224,093 tons. The bumper crop and good prices are the driving force for people to actively invest in agricultural production.
