While selling coconuts and teaching, over the past years, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hue (27 years old), residing in Dong Le ward, Dong Ha city (Quang Tri) has helped many children in difficult circumstances learn to read and write.

This free class was opened by Ms. Hue in June 2023, with the aim of teaching knowledge and skills to children.

Ms. Hue was born into a poor family. Her father died early, and her mother had to work hard to take care of 6 children. With her own efforts, she graduated from Hue University of Education with honors.

For many reasons, Ms. Hue had to put aside her dream of becoming a teacher to return to business, help her mother, and open a small coconut shop near the railway bridge to make ends meet.

With the desire to contribute her strength and make life more beautiful, Ms. Hue often participates in many volunteer activities. Having graduated from the pedagogy department, Ms. Hue has long cherished the idea of opening a free class for poor students, which was later realized under the name of the Rainbow class.

"Each person has their own color. If they stand alone, it is difficult for them to shine brightly and beautifully. Only when standing together can people find their deepest beauty. The same goes for rainbows. When many colors combine together, they create a brilliant rainbow. That is why I named this class Rainbow," Ms. Hue confided.

At first, the class was held at Ms. Hue's house. Later, to facilitate the coconut business, Ms. Hue switched to teaching at a shop, next to the railway overpass in Dong Ha city.

At the new location, although the space is small, the classroom only has plastic tables, chairs, a small board, a bookshelf made from fruit baskets... but it is always full of children.

Ms. Hue’s special class has touched the hearts of many people. Many students in Quang Tri have taken the time to support and teach with her.

"Once when I bought a coconut, I learned about Ms. Hue's class so I asked to support and teach math to the children. In the Rainbow class, I got to experience being a teacher and review my knowledge. Especially, I felt more motivated and full of energy when interacting with the children," Mai Phan Tuan Hung, a 12th grade student at Dong Ha High School, shared.

Ms. Hue's Rainbow Class is teaching 12 children of primary school age. All of them come from difficult circumstances, especially 2 children who have never been to school because their family circumstances do not allow it.

"The two children are the grandchildren of a woman who wanders around all day and sleeps under a bridge at night. Since they were young, they have not been able to go to school and have had to follow their grandmother everywhere to beg. It's so pitiful," said Ms. Hue.

In addition to teaching, Ms. Hue also spends time talking and understanding the circumstances of each member of the class. Recently, hearing that a student's father had an accident and his family's circumstances were very difficult, Ms. Hue went to the hospital to help.

To help students learn better, Ms. Hue will test each new student to know their learning ability, then guide and support them. Ms. Hue spends a lot of time helping students develop a passion for books. Ms. Hue also always pays attention to life skills education activities.

"My family is poor so we cannot send our child to extra classes. When I heard that Ms. Hue opened a free class, I immediately asked for my child to attend. He studies and plays with his friends, and his academic performance is getting better and better," said Ms. Vo Thi Oanh, a resident of Dong Le ward.

Talking about her future plans, Ms. Hue hopes that young people with similar enthusiasm will turn to the Rainbow class and help the children learn together. The young girl also plans to find a larger space, invest in tables and chairs… if the number of students increases.
