Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian officials continue to speak out after confirming that they attacked Ukraine with Oreshnik medium-range hypersonic ballistic missiles.
TASS news agency on November 23 quoted Russian Strategic Missile Forces Commander Sergei Karakayev as declaring that the Oreshnik missile can reach any target across Europe, after Russia tested the missile in combat in Ukraine.
"This hypersonic missile system can strike any targets, from isolated to area targets, as well as heavily defended targets, with high efficiency," Mr. Karakayev said.

“Based on the mission and range of this weapon, it can strike targets across the entire Europe, which makes it different from other high-precision long-range weapons,” the commander said.
Regarding the details of the missile, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that this is not an upgrade of the old Soviet versions but is part of Russia's new development.

"The Oreshnik system has nothing to do with modernizing old Soviet systems," he said.
The leader admitted that Russia has built on what previous generations did and has used those results to some extent.
"However, this system is actually the main result of your work, which was carried out in Russian times, in the conditions of the new Russia, it was carried out on the basis of the latest, modern developments," Putin said at a meeting with senior defense officials, heads of defense enterprises and weapons developers.

The Russian Defense Ministry previously announced that it had launched Oreshnik missiles with MIRVed warheads that hit all targets at a Ukrainian military-industrial facility in Dnipro on November 21.
The agency said the missile launch was in response to Ukraine's use of long-range missiles made in the US and Britain against Russian territory.
Regarding missile development, First Deputy Chairman of the Russian Military-Industrial Commission Vasily Tonkoshkurov said that the country's defense sector can equip up to 95% of modern weapons and systems for the strategic missile force.
He said a large-scale program to expand production capacities at defense sector organizations is underway, which will significantly increase the production of weapons and systems in high demand.
In another development, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said that any escalation in the conflict with Ukraine was possible because of what the West was doing.
