The Kansas City Current Women's Club's homepage has just posted an announcement about the successful recruitment of Lee Nguyen as the team's assistant coach. "Lee Nguyen has a long track record as a midfielder who has played in MLS (American professional soccer league) and for clubs in the Netherlands, Denmark, and Vietnam. In 8 years in MLS, he has played more than 250 matches. Lee Nguyen will start working at Kansas City Current immediately."

"We are delighted to welcome Lee Nguyen to the team," said interim head coach Caroline Sjoblom. "His international experience and NWSL coaching experience will add value to our team."

Meanwhile, Lee Nguyen shared after getting the new job: "I am very happy to be honored to be a part of Kansas City Current. The team's vision of developing women's soccer is what attracted me here and I am excited to have the opportunity to contribute to that development. I am very happy to be a part of the team's success and can't wait to get started."

Previously, Lee Nguyen had worked as a coach for the Washington Spirit women's team (playing in the NWSL). After that, he returned to the V-League to help Ho Chi Minh City FC stay in the league in the 2022 season.

By joining a team in the US as an assistant coach, the possibility of Lee Nguyen returning to V-League 2023 to compete is almost gone. Previously, coach Vu Tien Thanh revealed that the Vietnamese-American midfielder would be ready to return to help Ho Chi Minh City Club: "Lee Nguyen is our reserve. As I have discussed, in case the team encounters the most difficult and dangerous situation, he is ready to return."

Faced with the difficult situation in V-League 2023, Ho Chi Minh City Club has also added personnel to compete for relegation in the remaining stages of the season. Accordingly, the "Red Battleship" has recruited Brazilian center-back Brendon Lucas and borrowed midfielder Huynh Tan Tai (from Hanoi Police Club) in the hope of improving their position in the near future.

Ho Chi Minh City Club has only 7 points after 11 rounds, ranking 13th out of 14 teams participating in V-League 2023. In the last 2 matches of phase 1, coach Vu Tien Thanh's team will face HAGL and Viettel Club respectively.
