On the afternoon of March 10, at Lang Ong, the People's Committee of Nhon Hai commune (Quy Nhon city, Binh Dinh) organized the traditional fishing festival of Nhon Hai commune in 2025. Here, thousands of people and tourists came to watch, the festival atmosphere was both exciting and solemn.
According to the festival organizing committee, every year, the traditional fishing festival of Nhon Hai commune is held for 4 days (11th - 14th of the second lunar month) with many typical rituals of fishermen in Nhon Hai coastal area.

The fishing festival aims to honor the merits of the Nam Hai god and other gods, ancestors and descendants who reclaimed and built the sea area and pray for the country to prosper, the people's lives to be prosperous and happy, and for fishermen to go out to sea to catch a full catch of seafood.
The fishing festival not only brings cultural values but also serves as a bridge connecting many island cultural features from generations of traditional fishermen in Nhon Hai in the process of building and developing the economy and society.
Mr. Mang Minh Nguyen (68 years old, in Nhon Hai commune) said that the fishing festival in Nhon Hai commune has a tradition of hundreds of years passed down from his father and grandfather. Every year, the locality organizes the festival once to pray for favorable weather and wind, and at the same time thank the gods and ancestors. "People here are very excited to watch the ceremony of welcoming the gods, entering the temple, performing Cheo Ba Trao singing, lion and dragon dances, and spring worshiping ceremony...", Mr. Nguyen said.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh (32 years old, a tourist from Hanoi) said that she and her friends were traveling in Binh Dinh and heard that there was a fishing festival in Nhon Hai commune, so they went to see it. The fishing festival of fishermen in coastal areas in Binh Dinh is very unique and imbued with cultural identity. "At the festival, there were many programs and performances that were very attractive. We went to see it and did not want to go home even though it was dark," Ms. Thanh said.
Talking to Thanh Nien reporter, Mr. Do Cao Thang, Chairman of Nhon Hai Commune People's Committee said that the fishing festival is associated with the worship of Nam Hai god, taking the image of Whale - the guardian god of the sea of fishermen.

According to Mr. Thang, for the life of coastal communities, the fishing festival is the biggest festival of the year, both praying for a good harvest - praying for fish, worshiping the fish god, and expressing the desire for a year of "calm weather, smooth sailing, and a full hold of fish and shrimp".
"Preserving and promoting the fishing festival is one of the important tasks, contributing to preserving inherent values such as spiritual, religious, cultural and artistic values. At the same time, the festival also promotes the value of community cohesion in modern life, is a unique cultural meeting place for tourists who want to learn and experience the lives of local people and this is also an opportunity for people to encourage each other to stick to the sea, maintaining the cultural lifestyle of the people", said Mr. Thang.
