Representative of the sponsor "Library for Children" shared the joy of reading with students at Ban Ten School, Van Lang Primary School No. 2 (Dong Hy). |
The Ban Ten school of Van Lang Commune Primary School No. 2 has over 130 Mong ethnic students from grades 1 to 5. For many years, the school has had a reading room with hundreds of books to meet the necessary and minimum needs of students. However, for a hamlet in the most remote and difficult group in the district, the need for students and teachers to access suitable books is often higher than the minimum capacity of the school.
In 2024, through the mobilization of Dong Hy District, V-GINSENG Joint Stock Company, Phenikaa Group (Hanoi) and a number of volunteer units, Ban Ten school was presented with a "Library for Children" with 7 bookshelves containing nearly 900 books, library management software and gifts worth a total of about 180 million VND. The delegation also built and handed over the library's organization and operation process to help teachers easily manage and students easily borrow and return books.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang, Director of V-GINSENG Joint Stock Company: We realized that children in Ban Ten lack reference books and entertainment books. With this Library for Children, we hope to help students access new knowledge and improve their reading skills and receive information from books.
Mr. Le Van Minh, Vice Principal of Van Lang Primary School No. 2, shared: In order for children in mountainous districts to continue to access new sources of knowledge, develop their thinking and language skills, building a reading culture space for children is very necessary. A well-functioning library will certainly not only improve students' knowledge but also greatly support the teaching work of teachers.
With the new library, students at Ban Ten School, Van Lang Primary School No. 2 (Dong Hy) have access to many new books, improving reading culture. |
In addition to Ban Ten school, in recent times, Dong Hy district has also devoted much attention and resources to developing reading culture in the district, especially in areas with large ethnic minority populations.
The district proactively builds an annual plan to develop a reading culture. Organizes many diverse activities, attracting the participation of a large number of people, such as: Responding to Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day; book and newspaper exhibitions; book reading festivals; storytelling contests based on books... At the same time, promote propaganda and mobilize people in the area to regularly read books and newspapers and maintain reading newspapers, in order to create effective reading habits, skills and methods.
In particular, the district has built a library system from the district level down to the commune level, schools and reading spaces for hamlets to help people access books and spread reading culture widely.
Mr. Tran Anh Tu, Vice Chairman of Nam Hoa Commune People's Committee: With support from the district, Nam Hoa commune has put the commune library into operation since the end of 2023 with over 1,300 books and newspapers, including more than 800 fixed books and 500 books on rotation from the Provincial General Science Library. The operation of this library has so far helped thousands of people, especially students, access new sources of knowledge.

According to statistics from the People's Committee of Dong Hy district, up to now, 100% of primary and secondary schools in the district have built a rich and diverse library model. In addition, some communes in the area have also effectively deployed their own communal libraries, attracting readers, especially students, to come and consult and look up a variety of books in the library.
The operation of the library system spread throughout the district has helped people have more access to books, newspapers, and documents to better serve their learning needs, absorb science and technology to apply in production and life, contributing to forming the habit of self-study and research, and improving people's knowledge.
In the coming time, Dong Hy district will direct sectors and localities to continue to launch and organize book donation movements and programs, while organizing activities and effectively promoting the quality of communal and school libraries to encourage and expand the movement and reading habits, contributing to improving knowledge and developing a reading culture towards building a learning society.
