The Lao Cai - Vinh Yen 500kV Transmission Line Project is a national key project that has been approved for investment by the Prime Minister. This is a 500kV double-circuit transmission line with a total length of 229.5km, with a total of 468 pole foundation locations.

Project capital scale 7,410 billion VND

The project passes through 4 provinces including Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Phu Tho and Vinh Phuc with the starting point being the 500kV Lao Cai station and the ending point being the 500kV Vinh Yen station. The total investment is over 7,410 billion VND, arranged from 80% loan capital from Vietcombank and 20% counterpart capital from EVN (before tax).

The section passing through Yen Bai province alone is 90.06km long, with 173 pole foundation locations, passing through two districts, Luc Yen and Yen Binh. The project contributes to ensuring energy sources for the province's medium and long-term development goals, increasing budget revenue, and creating job opportunities for local businesses and workers.

Mr. Pham Hong Phuong, Deputy General Director of EVN, said that this is a project that was prepared for investment and the project implementation and procedures were completed in a record time of just over three months.

The project is on the list of important national projects, key to the energy sector, with the role of transmitting the capacity of hydroelectric plants in the Northwest region and neighboring provinces to the national power system.

At the same time, create strong links between areas in the power system, increase the ability to operate safely and stably for the national power system. Reduce power loss in the transmission grid, increase the efficiency of electricity production and business, and reserve the need to import electricity from China.

Speed up progress to completion by September 2025 at the latest

As an important and urgent project, according to the Prime Minister's request, it must be completed within 6 months, no later than September 2025. Mr. Phuong hopes that local leaders, departments and branches will pay attention to and direct the implementation of compensation, support and resettlement work, and soon complete the handover of the entire site of column foundations and route corridors for synchronous and simultaneous construction of foundation positions.

EVN commits to directing contractors, consultants, and coordinating well with local authorities to resolutely implement the project on schedule. EVN requires construction contractors to urgently mobilize sufficient human resources, equipment, and prepare sufficient finances to implement construction simultaneously on the entire route, ensuring quality, progress, safety, and environmental sanitation.

Mr. Ngo Hanh Phuc - Vice Chairman of Yen Bai Provincial People's Committee - also said that in order for the project to be on schedule, the investor, Power Project Management Board 1 and contractors and construction units must strictly comply with technical procedures and regulations, ensuring the highest progress and quality; closely coordinate with all levels and sectors to resolve related issues and recommendations from the people.

Areas where the power line passes through focus on carrying out site clearance well. Actively promote and raise people's awareness of the meaning and importance of investing in construction works; create consensus and high support from people in land acquisition and site clearance, creating favorable conditions for construction units to implement the project.
