Speaking to reporters, President Trump confirmed that Washington is negotiating with Kiev about the possibility of American companies owning Ukrainian power plants.

“We are discussing territory. We are discussing demarcation lines, we are talking about energy, ownership of power plants. Some people are saying that the United States should own the power plants… because we have the expertise,” he revealed.

Previously, on March 23 and 24, the US delegation met with Ukrainian officials in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).

The talks will focus primarily on a ceasefire in the Black Sea, but the White House boss confirmed other issues would be raised as he pushes to end Russia's more than three-year conflict against Ukraine.

In March 2025, the two sides confirmed that they had agreed to soon sign a comprehensive agreement to develop Kiev's mineral resources, seen as part of Washington's long-term commitment to support Ukraine amid the conflict.

A senior US official revealed that the new agreement will be "more detailed and comprehensive" than previous drafts.
