Spring is the spiritual and cultural tourism season of Quang Ninh with the annual number of visitors reaching millions. This year is the same, the system of hundreds of relics in the province are open to welcome visitors with significant numbers, many festivals are held to increase the attraction for tourists.
The attraction of spring travel season
Yen Tu is one of the most famous cultural and spiritual tourist destinations in Quang Ninh. According to statistics from the Management Board of Yen Tu National Park and Monuments, the number of visitors to Yen Tu in the 14 days after Tet (from January 1 to January 14) was more than 143,000. The cumulative number from the beginning of January to February 11 was more than 159,000 visitors, bringing in a revenue of over 6.1 billion VND in entrance fees.
This year, the weather after Tet is relatively good, the air is cold but there is not much drizzle, favorable for pilgrims. During Tet holiday, Yen Tu can attract more than 20,000 visitors on peak days. After Tet holiday, the number of visitors decreases on normal days, ranging from 4,000 to 5,000 visitors, while on weekends, Yen Tu attracts a larger number of visitors. For example, on the main festival day of January 10 (February 7), the relic welcomed 5,769 visitors. On the last two weekends of February 8 and 9, Yen Tu welcomed more than 16,000 and 17,000 visitors respectively.
However, through general assessment, the number of visitors tends to decrease by 13-15% compared to the same period last year. Explaining this, Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Head of the Management Board of Yen Tu National Forest and Relic Site, commented: This year, the number of visitors to relic sites across the country tends to decrease because in the spring, many places organize festivals, find ways to attract visitors, so visitors will be distributed evenly to many places, not concentrated in one place anymore...
Surveys at several other major relics in the area also show that the number of visitors is much higher during the Tet holiday, then decreases sharply, only on weekends does the number of visitors increase again. Mr. Pham Chien Thang, Head of the Management Board of Bach Dang Relic Site (Quang Yen), shared: On the first, second and third days of Tet, traffic jams occur, sometimes stretching up to 2 kilometers on the road leading to the relic site. The number of visitors to the relic site on peak days can reach about 20,000 visitors. After the full moon of January, the number of visitors begins to decrease. It is estimated that from the first to the 14th of January, Bach Dang Relic Site welcomed about 115,000 visitors...
The statistics at the Cua Ong - Cap Tien National Special Relic Site (Cam Pha, Van Don) are similar. Accordingly, the number of visitors to Cua Ong Temple during the peak Tet holiday ranged from over 16,000 to nearly 19,000, and Cap Tien Temple was over 8,000. The period after the holiday until February 11, peaking on Sunday, February 9, Cua Ong Temple welcomed over 11,500 visitors. The total number of visitors to Cua Ong Temple from the beginning of January 2025 to February 11 was over 130,000, and Cap Tien Temple was nearly 39,000.
The attraction of spring tourism at Quang Ninh's relics is very significant. This is due to the mobilization of resources from many sources to invest in spacious facilities at the relic complexes of the province in recent years. Until recent years, not only the original relics have been restored and sustainably embellished, but the flower, green, and landscape areas have been expanded and beautifully met the needs of sightseeing, resting, and relaxing for visitors in addition to the need to go to the temple at the beginning of the year.
In our experience, besides the main domestic tourists, cultural and spiritual tourist attractions also attract a certain number of foreign tourists to visit and experience the unique features of Vietnamese culture in Quang Ninh. Not only large relic sites such as Yen Tu, Cua Ong, small and medium-sized relic sites such as Long Tien Pagoda, Loi Am Pagoda (Ha Long City) also sporadically welcome international tourists to visit...
Highly appreciated for organizing and managing the spring festival over the years, this year, the management units and businesses located at the relics continue to maintain effective management plans to ensure security and order, traffic safety, fire prevention and fighting, environmental sanitation, food hygiene and safety... creating the most favorable conditions for tourists to worship and enjoy the spring festival.
According to the report of the Management Board of Cua Ong - Cap Tien Temple, the unit has arranged for the temple security force to coordinate with the locality to regularly inspect and guide people and tourists to strictly follow the regulations to ensure security and order for tourists to visit and worship the relic site. Ensure good fire prevention and fighting work. Regularly clean, collect and transport waste to ensure the hygiene of the relic site. Always take care of and trim the entire tree system to keep the relic site green, clean and beautiful...
In Yen Tu, the company that invests in the service system at the foot of the mountain is Tung Lam Development Joint Stock Company, which has prepared early . Welcoming visitors as soon as they arrive here is a system of statues, flowers, and eye-catching decorative miniatures along with countless fun and entertainment activities to serve visitors after their pilgrimage or stay and relax at the company's Lang Nuong and Legacy spaces, such as folk games, traditional art performances, ethnic musical instruments, experiences in making paintings, conical hats, bamboo dragonflies, horse riding, etc.
Functional units of Uong Bi City also coordinate well in implementing management plans, ensuring the construction of a civilized and friendly environment at the relic, contributing to creating a good impression for tourists about spring travel, sightseeing and Buddhist worship at Yen Tu.
Bustling festive atmosphere
Not only attracting visitors by the beauty of the landscape, historical value, and unique culture of the relics, the space of the relics is also the place where hundreds of spring festivals take place, which has a great appeal to tourists.
Up to this point, many big festivals have taken place. In Quang Yen, we can mention the Tien Cong Festival, which impresses with the processions of the Elders to the temple to worship their ancestors, with the meaning of expressing gratitude to the Tien Cong who reclaimed the sea, establishing the prosperous Ha Nam island region today, or the Cau Ngu Festival with the wishes of the coastal people for a year of "calm seas, full holds of shrimp and fish"...
In the western strip of the province - Dong Trieu, Ngoa Van spring festival attracts pilgrims to the sacred holy land - where King Tran Nhan Tong became Buddha on Bao Dai mountain more than 700 years ago. On the 9th, Ngoa Van spring festival opens, on the 10th, Yen Tu spring festival opens - a mountain range with a system of hundreds of pagodas and towers running from the foot to the top of Dong pagoda. Both festivals last for 3 months of spring. With the vast space, the purity of the land and sky, the scenery here makes visitors feel like they are lost in the Buddhist realm.
In Yen Tu, not only local visitors but also many tourists from neighboring localities such as Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Hanoi... come to the famous mountain every year as a habit to purify their hearts, a beautiful cultural tradition that has permeated the lives of Vietnamese people. Then the bustling festivals in the highland villages, such as the Da village communal house festival (Ba Che), Luc Na communal house festival (Binh Lieu) attract tourists with the unique cultural colors of the highland ethnic groups...
In the coming time, many festivals will continue to be held in the second and third lunar months. Typically, in the beginning of the second lunar month is the Cua Ong temple festival with a variety of folk games such as tug of war, human chess, checkers, cockfighting, stick pushing, blindfolded drumming, offering and offering contests... Meanwhile, in the beginning of the third lunar month, the land of Quang Yen invites visitors to the bustling, colorful space of the traditional Bach Dang Festival... Each heritage has its own unique cultural features that attract visitors to learn and explore.
In 2024, Quang Ninh tourism attracted 8.5 million visitors to the relics and traditional festivals in the area, mainly visitors in the spring. This year, with the bustling number of visitors to cultural heritages since the beginning of the year, combined with the richness of festivals, it promises to continue to bring about positive numbers for spiritual and cultural tourism, contributing to the common goal of Quang Ninh tourism.
