(VTC News) – O Quy Ho Pass and terraced fields in Sa Pa have become two scenic spots recognized by the Vietnam Record Organization.

The Vietnam Record Organization (VietKings) has set records for two famous landscapes of Sa Pa town (Lao Cai), which are O Quy Ho pass - the longest pass in Vietnam and the terraced field with the most steps - 121 steps, in Vu Lung Sung village, Trung Chai commune, Sa Pa town.

O Quy Ho - the longest pass in Vietnam

O Quy Ho Pass is a favorite destination that attracts many tourists when coming to Sa Pa. As one of the four great mountain passes of the Northwest, O Quy Ho Pass will definitely be the ultimate check-in spot with its wild and poetic mountain beauty.

The pass is known by many names such as O Quy Ho Pass, Hoang Lien Son Pass or May Pass. The pass is located right next to National Highway 4D running through Hoang Lien Son mountain range, bordering Lao Cai and Lai Chau provinces.

Located at an altitude of 200m above sea level, with dangerous curves, a length of 50km, and clouds covering the top of the pass all year round, this pass has made other famous passes such as Ma Pi Leng (20km), Pha Din (32km long) or Khau Pha (40km) become small. Perhaps that is why O Quy Ho Pass is known as the "uncrowned king" of the "four great mountain passes" of the Northwest.

Previously, you had to ride a motorbike along Highway 4D to reach the pass, but now there is a safer and more convenient way, which is to take the cable car. You can buy a cable car ticket at the station (buy a ticket to visit Fansipan peak). You will move from Fansipan peak to Thac Bac area, then go to Tram Ton, then go about 4-5 km along Highway 4D to reach the top of O Quy Ho pass.

O Quy Ho Pass has its own beauty in each different season. The time to go will depend on what you want to experience here.

In summer: The weather is quite cool, pleasant, a little chilly and less foggy, suitable for traveling. However, you should only go on the pass on the Lao Cai side because the Lai Chau side is very hot at this time.

In winter: The weather in Lai Chau is more pleasant in winter, with a bit of sunshine at noon, while Lao Cai is completely covered in fog, even with freezing snow. If you intend to travel to O Quy Ho at this time, remember to bring all the necessary items such as warm clothes or gloves. In addition, the most ideal time to travel to O Quy Ho pass is in the late afternoon when the sunset covers the entire Northwest. And book a night at a hotel to travel to the pass to welcome the sunrise in the morning, this moment will not disappoint you.

O Quy Ho Pass is the longest pass in Vietnam as of 2020. On both sides of the pass, one side is a bottomless abyss, the other side is steep cliffs. Danger warning signs are placed on both sides of the road. Usually, backpackers choose a route so that when they return through O Quy Ho, it is already dusk.

On full moon nights, the moonlight slant down the towering cliffs, casting shadows on the bends, looking sideways like a majestic ink painting, it is truly a magical touch. If you stand close to a corner of the bend next to the steep cliffs, you will hear the silent, creepy breath of the mountains and forests.

Right at the foot of O Quy Ho Pass, towards Sa Pa is Bac Waterfall - one of the 10 most beautiful waterfalls in Lao Cai. The waterfall pours down day and night creating white foam, this majestic waterfall has amazed many domestic and foreign tourists.

Besides, Love Waterfall is also a famous place that attracts many couples to Sa Pa. Not as big as Silver Waterfall, Love Waterfall has a soft, gentle beauty.

The terraced field has the most steps.

Anyone who visits Sa Pa for the first time must be amazed by the scenery of terraced fields stretching out to the horizon. The spectacular natural scenery every autumn, with undulating fields along the mountainside between the Northwest sky and land, has been recognized by Travel and Leisure (USA) as one of the 7 most beautiful and magnificent terraced fields in Asia and the world.

Sa Pa is located in a subtropical monsoon microclimate and has to wait for the flooding season to start in May and June every year before planting rice. This is also the time when spectacular terraced fields appear in Sa Pa.

If you just want to admire the shape of Sa Pa terraced fields, you can come here at any time of the year. However, according to the experience of travel enthusiasts, if you have spent time and effort to go, we should go during the most beautiful rice season. Specifically, backpackers rate the ripe rice season in September as the most beautiful.

You can also visit Sa Pa terraced fields around May - June. This is the water pouring season, the weather is just cold enough but the scenery is still extremely beautiful. If you are lucky, in addition to watching the ripe rice, we can also hunt for clouds.
