"I am Cao Pendant Quang Vinh. I am Vietnamese and I am very proud to have received Vietnamese citizenship. My mother called me while I was training with the club and when I called back later, she cried," the Hanoi Police Club (CAHN) quoted player Cao Quang Vinh as saying on the morning of March 21.
On March 19, Hanoi Police Club announced that Jason Quang Vinh Pendant officially has Vietnamese nationality. The player born in 1997 took the Vietnamese name Cao Quang Vinh, following his mother's surname.
"I was very excited while waiting for citizenship. It was a long time. I am very happy that my process of applying for Vietnamese citizenship ended well. I love Vietnam. This is a wonderful environment where I am living. Vietnamese people are very kind and hospitable. My family and I love the food and the sights in Vietnam," said the French-born defender.
Cao Quang Vinh's ability has been recognized after playing in the top French leagues and his current influence at CAHN Club. Like Nguyen Filip, Quang Vinh's biggest challenge is the language barrier.
"I study Vietnamese three times a week. I also study on my own via the internet, thanks to which my Vietnamese improves every day," Quang Vinh said.
Due to the time needed to complete the registration process to change his playing nationality on the FIFA system, Cao Quang Vinh cannot join the Vietnam national team.
"Becoming a Vietnamese citizen is a great source of motivation for me to continue my efforts on the field. I will prove myself with the goal of being called up to the Vietnamese national team," Quang Vinh affirmed.
