Soc Son District: so that farmers no longer "sell their faces to the land and their backs to the sky"

On March 27, Soc Son district held a conference to review the program of mechanization in agricultural production according to Resolution No. 08/2023/NQ-HDND of the Hanoi People's Council.

Multiple benefits

According to statistics, Soc Son district currently has a total agricultural land area of ​​more than 13,395 hectares, of which the annual rice cultivation area is about 9,000 hectares, among the largest in Hanoi.

In recent years, the district has applied and popularized mechanization in rice production in the stages of land preparation and harvesting. However, rice planting by machine and spraying of plant protection chemicals (PPE) by drones are still quite limited.

Deputy Director of the Agricultural Service Center of Soc Son District Nguyen Thi Thu said that in order to promote the advantages and potentials of the locality, in 2024, the locality will focus on implementing Resolution No. 08/2023/NQ-HDND in two stages: machine planting and spraying pesticides with unmanned aerial vehicles.

Regarding funding support for machine planting, in 2024, Soc Son district deployed on an area of ​​26.7676 hectares in 2 communes: Xuan Giang, Bac Phu. Evaluation shows that machine planting helps save production costs. Rice planted by machine also has a uniform density and productivity increases by 10-15% compared to manual planting.

Regarding spraying pesticides using drones, in 2024, Soc Son district deployed support on an area of ​​566 hectares, in the communes of Xuan Giang, Viet Long, Tan Hung, and Nam Son.

Compared to spraying pesticides with hand pumps, spraying pesticides with drones has helped reduce pesticide consumption by 20-30%, the amount of water needed is 15-20 times lower, labor is 5-10 times lower than hand spraying and the spraying speed is only 10-15 minutes/ha...

For farmers to benefit

The synchronous application of mechanization in rice production in Soc Son district is a major turning point, not only freeing up labor for people, protecting the environment, saving costs, but also contributing to improving productivity and quality of rice per production unit.

Mr. Vuong Xuan Luan, a farmer in Tan Hung commune (Soc Son district) shared that people believe in the effectiveness of spraying pesticides using drones and in fact the results are very positive.

Along with the general policies of the city, the district has developed and implemented many specific policies to support production for farmers.

According to Ms. Hoang Thi Ha, because it is the first year of implementation, the implementation of Resolution No. 08/2023/NQ-HDND still faces certain difficulties. A part of the people do not really trust the policy. The authorities of some communes have not paid attention to bringing the policy to the people.

Emphasizing that mechanization in agricultural production is a trend, farmers cannot continue to "sell their faces to the land and their backs to the sky", Ms. Hoang Thi Ha said that in the coming time, the Agricultural Service Center of Soc Son district will continue to coordinate and guide the People's Committees of communes to implement the content of the policy to support mechanization in agricultural production according to Resolution No. 08/2023/NQ-HDND.

In order for the implementation of Resolution No. 08/2023/NQ-HDND to continue to achieve positive results, Soc Son district requests the People's Committees of communes to continue to propagate so that people are aware of the benefits of planting machines and spraying pesticides with drones. Cooperate with units to bring the city's support policies to farmers.
