The black jelly tree is considered the "black gold" of the border area of Trang Dinh, Lang Son province, bringing hundreds of billions of dong to the people every year. To continue to be a tree that enriches the people, Trang Dinh district has had fundamental solutions.

Black jelly is a native plant in Trang Dinh district. For generations, people have grown black jelly to make jelly, a refreshing drink on hot summer days.

With the increasing demand of the market, many families in Trang Dinh district have developed and expanded the area of black jelly planting in fields as well as on swidden fields.
For more than 10 years, Ms. Nong Thi Tinh - Kim Dong Commune, Trang Dinh District has been growing black jelly trees for economic development. She said that like other families in the area, her family has been growing black jelly trees for the past few years, yielding about 2 tons each year.
"In years when prices were favorable, my family also had a good income. From the black jelly tree, my family was able to build a house and buy a car..." - Ms. Tinh shared.
By 2021, the area of black jelly planting in Trang Dinh district will be 2,500 hectares, with an output of 13,446 tons, bringing in about 500 billion VND in income for people...
Black jelly trees have grown in many localities of Trang Dinh district such as Kim Dong, Tan Tien, Cao Minh, Doan Ket, Vinh Tien, Khanh Long, Bac Ai, Chi Minh, Chi Lang... Wherever black jelly trees are, they contribute to hunger eradication, poverty reduction and enrichment for many households.
In order to support people in developing black jelly, the Department of Agriculture of Trang Dinh district has also encouraged and supported people in communes to build 118 growing area codes and 10 black jelly packaging facility codes, meeting the requirements of tracing the origin of agricultural products, enhancing reputation and ensuring export requirements.

In 2017, the Department of Intellectual Property, Ministry of Science and Technology granted a certificate of trademark registration for the black jelly tree of Trang Dinh district.
Accordingly, the collective trademark is used for food jelly products, dried black jelly, black jelly, fresh black jelly, non-alcoholic black jelly drinks.
In December 2020, the Protocol on phytosanitary requirements for black jelly exported from Vietnam to China was signed... these are really positive motivations for people growing and exporting black jelly to develop.

Developing with a large area of black jelly cultivation but without a long-term strategy, especially not building a close connection between growers and processing enterprises, so when the Covid-19 epidemic occurred, purchasing power decreased, causing black jelly farmers in Trang Dinh district to face many difficulties in the consumption process.
From a key crop in economic development, the area of black jelly planting in Trang Dinh district has now decreased, to 1,360 hectares in 2023 and 822 hectares in 2024.

In order to support farmers growing black jelly in the area, the People's Committee of Trang Dinh district has proposed many timely solutions such as integrating many resources to support jelly production and processing units, supporting trade promotion, building OCOP products... calling on businesses inside and outside Lang Son province to come and learn about black jelly and deeply process products made from jelly.
Along with that, the Department of Agriculture of Trang Dinh district has also opened training and guidance classes to help people grasp the techniques and grow plants according to the correct standards to ensure export.
As a unit that has participated in planting and linking up the consumption of black jelly trees with the people of Trang Dinh district in the recent past, Mr. Ha Viet Quy - Director of Duc Quy Import-Export Production and Investment Company Limited said that since 2019, his company has linked up with the people to plant black jelly trees, with a contract to consume the products.
Thanks to that, people feel much more secure in planting. "Despite many unfavorable developments, our connection with 500 households is still very strong, and the purchase price is now 7 times higher than in 2018," said Mr. Quy.
It can be seen that the linkage will contribute to better production and consumption of agricultural products, thereby making agricultural production truly sustainable, forming concentrated commodity production areas. Thereby, people's lives will truly improve and enhance.
