At the conference, delegates agreed on the key contents of 2025 in the linkage. Specifically: organizing conferences to deploy tasks, forums for cooperation and tourism development; implementing and announcing the Project on Developing Linking Tourism Products of Ho Chi Minh City and 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta; developing a tourism program associated with the cultural and historical values of the border areas of Long An, Dong Thap, An Giang and Kien Giang provinces; a tourism promotion program for Ho Chi Minh City and 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta in the Central provinces (this is the first joint promotion program of 14 provinces and cities to potential markets); building an electronic handbook introducing the list of tourism promotion and investment projects of 14 provinces and cities; completing and announcing the content of promoting tourist destinations of 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta on the 3D/360 digital application platform of Ho Chi Minh City; Organize human resource training courses, especially human resources in community and waterway tourism.
Delegates also discussed and made many recommendations and proposals for effective linkage and promotion of regional tourism development. Specifically, localities in the Mekong Delta need to restructure and reposition tourism products; pay attention to synchronous investment in tourism infrastructure; localities and business communities in the Mekong Delta focus on building the Mekong Delta brand, in which each locality has typical products to create highlights to attract tourists, especially international visitors. At the same time, promote tourism, especially linkage, promotion, and expansion of connecting markets to the Central and Northern regions; focus on developing waterway tourism products; apply digital technology in tourism activities...
On this occasion, the Organizing Committee launched the Action Program on developing green and sustainable tourism in Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta with the theme “Sustainable tourism and Net Zero target”. 26 tourism and travel businesses from 14 provinces and cities also signed a cooperation agreement to develop regional tourism.
Since 2019, Ho Chi Minh City and 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta have built links and cooperated to develop tourism. Five key contents have been identified: information exchange and state management; tourism promotion and advertising; tourism product development; human resource investment; tourism investment promotion. Accordingly, each year, the provinces and cities in this link and cooperation organize conferences to set out key tasks and key events.
In 2024, many contents were effectively implemented. These include: successfully organizing the Forum on Cooperation in Tourism Development between Ho Chi Minh City and 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta in Ben Tre; Ho Chi Minh City and Mekong Delta Trade Tourism Week in Can Tho City; surveying, developing and announcing 55 river tourism routes of 14 provinces and cities; organizing 9 regional tourism survey programs: Southeast, Mekong Delta. At the same time, voting and announcing 50 attractive destinations of 14 provinces and cities... From the effectiveness of the linkage, in 2024, there were more than 2.7 million visitors from Ho Chi Minh City to the Mekong Delta, and more than 1 million visitors from the Mekong Delta to Ho Chi Minh City.
