Attending the opening ceremony were Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, Vice Chairwoman of Can Tho City People's Committee; leaders of the city's Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism; leaders of the city's Tourism Association, units and artisans from 14 provinces and cities.
The Traditional Cake Competition is organized by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, aiming to create conditions for organizations, individuals, and traditional cake makers to introduce and promote their products to domestic and foreign businesses, connect the market, and gradually contribute to building the Southern traditional cake brand. This is also an opportunity for people and tourists to enjoy and participate in cake making activities, learn about the Southern culinary culture in general and the culinary culture of each region in particular.
This year's contest has 44 participating units, 58 cakes, gathering 116 artisans from 14 provinces and cities across the country. The organizing committee encourages contestants to create new types of cakes but still show the characteristics of the locality, region, and ethnicity. The ingredients for making cakes must ensure origin and food hygiene and safety, with the motto of saving and creativity. The contest takes place from April 5 to 8.
Ms. Dao Thi Thanh Thuy, Deputy Director of the City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Head of the Organizing Committee of the contest, hopes that the contest will contribute to preserving and developing traditional cakes, honoring the creative work of artisans and successors; gradually enhancing the value of traditional cakes; contributing to promoting the development of culinary tourism.
* On the same day, activities to promote giant banh xeo and introduce the largest banh chung in the Mekong Delta also took place.
Accordingly, the giant pancake stands out with duck meat, coconut root and 100 lobsters. The event has the participation of many famous artists: Huynh Anh Tuan, Bach Cong Khanh...
Banh chung weighs more than 1 ton, wrapped and cooked by 36 artisans of the Can Tho Professional Chefs Association.
The cake is then brought out to offer to visitors for free.
