Co Do district veterans actively protect the environment

Trung Hung commune war veterans participate in the model "Collecting bottles and packaging of plant protection drugs".

The model of "Planting mangrove trees to prevent landslides and protect the environment" has been implemented by the Trung Hung Commune Veterans Association since 2023. Each year, the Commune Veterans Association mobilizes the planting of about 1,000 mangrove trees. Cadres and members of the Commune Veterans Association also mobilize people to participate in planting and caring for mangrove trees along canals near their homes. Up to now, many mangrove trees planted by cadres and members of the Trung Hung Commune Veterans Association have grown well, contributing to preserving the land along canals and ditches. At the same time, the Commune Veterans Association mobilizes people in the area to build embankments with concrete pillars, cajuput, and bamboo to prevent landslides, with a total amount of 115 million VND. Currently, the Commune Veterans Association is preparing to plant 1,200 mangrove trees on the occasion of the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday (May 19, 1890 - May 19, 2025).

In mid-2024, the Trung Hung Commune Veterans Association deployed the model of "Collecting bottles and packaging of plant protection drugs". The Commune Veterans Association mobilized the construction of 10 concrete pits to store bottles and packaging of plant protection drugs in Thanh Hung 2 and Thanh Phu 2 hamlets. The Commune Veterans Association organized 3 campaigns, collecting more than 200kg of bottles, jars and packaging of plant protection drugs. After that, the Commune Veterans Association brought agricultural waste to the Co Do District Plant Protection and Cultivation Station for proper treatment according to regulations. For nearly a year, the model of "Collecting bottles and packaging of plant protection drugs" has contributed to raising awareness of veterans and people in environmental protection activities, strictly complying with the provisions of the law on environmental protection, and economically and effectively using fertilizers and pesticides in agricultural production.

Mr. Le Quoc Sinh, Chairman of the Commune Veterans Association, said: “We coordinate with hamlets and commune agricultural extension officers to actively promote, mobilize, and analyze the significance of the model so that farmers understand and voluntarily participate. At the same time, we arrange garbage pits in suitable locations, distribute them reasonably, creating convenience for people when mixing pesticides, without affecting the surrounding environment.”

Every year, the War Veterans Association at all levels in Co Do district register to carry out many projects and tasks related to environmental protection, such as: planting trees, planting flowers; collecting garbage, clearing canals; participating in propaganda and mobilizing members and people to protect water sources of rivers and canals; preserving green, clean and beautiful landscapes at their living and working places... Many grassroots War Veterans Associations have registered for the model of skillfully mobilizing people to collect plastic waste, bottles, and used pesticide packaging; planting trees to contribute to environmental protection, such as: Trung Hung Commune War Veterans Association, Dong Hiep Commune War Veterans Association, Thoi Xuan Commune War Veterans Association, Dong Thang Commune War Veterans Association... In particular, the district War Veterans Association at all levels has built a model of "Beautiful Road" with a total length of over 100km.

According to Mr. Cao Thanh Viet, Vice Chairman of the District Association of War Veterans, the District Association of War Veterans at all levels has actively coordinated with sectors and organizations to propagate the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws related to environmental protection tasks; mobilize and guide people to raise awareness and change their behavior in a positive direction regarding environmental protection in residential areas... In the coming time, the District Association of War Veterans at all levels will continue to improve the quality of skillful mass mobilization models associated with environmental protection; build bright, green and beautiful landscapes; coordinate to organize training courses and propagate environmental protection for War Veterans members and people.
