BTO-This morning (May 22), the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue of Tanh Linh district said that the locality has just counted the damage caused by natural disasters in the past few days. The total estimated damage is over 846 million VND.

Accordingly, from May 16 to 21, heavy rains occurred in the district. Water from upstream poured down through streams that could not drain in time, causing widespread flooding and localized whirlwinds. The most affected areas were Dong Kho and Duc Thuan communes. As a result, heavy rains caused flooding and washed away 131 hectares of rice. Including local flooding of about 10 hectares of newly sown summer-autumn rice in Bau Nga and some neighboring areas of Duc Thuan commune. Estimated damage was over 70%, with about 60 million VND. In Dong Kho commune alone, heavy rains completely flooded 121 hectares of rice, in hamlets 1,2,3,4 (newly sown rice area 1-2 days old), estimated damage was over 70% with over 720 million VND.

Immediately after the local flooding, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of the communes mobilized forces and equipment to dredge canals and remove trash at the locations of irrigation works and drainage culverts in residential areas to clear the flow so that water can drain quickly and limit flooding. Currently, localities are continuing to monitor, inspect and assess the damage. At the same time, it is said that if the rain continues in the coming days, it is likely to cause significant damage.

According to the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue of Tanh Linh district, in addition to damage to agricultural areas, heavy rain and tornadoes also completely collapsed a section of the fence of Duc Thuan Secondary School, Phu Thuan village, the length of the collapsed fence was about 30 meters, with estimated damage of about 60 million VND.

Currently, the locality is requesting the People's Committees of Duc Thuan and Dong Kho communes to continue monitoring and conducting inspections, specifically assessing the extent of damage after the water recedes, and making a specific list of damaged objects. Synthesize the damage report to propose support according to regulations. The Department of Economy and Infrastructure is conducting inspections, coordinating with localities to propose solutions to repair the damaged fence at Duc Thuan Secondary School.
