Early on October 26 (local time), the Israeli Defense Forces launched a large-scale airstrike campaign against Tehran in response to Iran's ballistic missile launch in early October. The raid targeted military targets in Iran, and warned that it would retaliate if the country retaliated for the airstrike.

According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the retaliatory attack campaign ended and all of the country's more than 100 fighter jets returned to base safely. The IDF also revealed that the targets around the Tehran area that were attacked included surveillance radar systems, air defense systems, and missile factories.

The IDF mobilized many types of military aircraft, including F-35I stealth fighters, refueling aircraft and reconnaissance aircraft, to coordinate air strikes on targets about 1,600 km from Israel.

Israeli fighter jets initially struck radar stations in Syria to prevent Iran from receiving remote warnings, then attacked targets in Tehran, Karaj and several other locations.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and members of his war cabinet watched the attack inside the operations center at the Kirya military base.

Israel said the strikes were focused on military targets in Iran, avoiding the country’s nuclear and oil facilities to prevent the conflict from escalating. Among the sites targeted was a ballistic missile site that Iran used in two attacks on Tel Aviv in April and October.

Meanwhile, Iran's state news agency IRNA said the Israeli attack was "completely intercepted" by the country's integrated air defense system. IRNA confirmed that military facilities in Tehran, Khuzestan and Ilam were targeted by Israeli missiles, but suffered "limited damage".

The Syrian Defense Ministry said its air defense systems shot down several Israeli missiles targeting central and southern Syria.

Iranian leaders have not yet mentioned how they will respond to the Israeli attack.

According to Axios , this is the first time Israel has claimed responsibility for an attack on Iran, during the "Day of Repentance" campaign.

Commenting on the Israeli attack, White House National Security Council spokesman Sean Savett said the US had discussions with Israel about limiting targets when Tel Aviv attacked Iran.

US officials said they were informed in advance of the operation by Israel and that the US military did not participate in the attack, calling it a legitimate act of self-defense by Israel.
