Hoi An celebrates 50 years of city liberation

Attending the ceremony were Major General Le Ngoc Hai - Commander of Military Region 5. On the side of Quang Nam province, there were alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Luong Nguyen Minh Triet; Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council Nguyen Duc Dung and comrades in the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee.

The celebration was also attended by thousands of compatriots, comrades, local people, twinned localities and tourists.

Speaking at the ceremony, Secretary of the Hoi An City Party Committee Tran Anh said that at this moment exactly 50 years ago, on the night of March 27 to March 28, 1975, under the leadership of the Party, the army and people of Hoi An launched an offensive and uprising to liberate their homeland, contributing with the whole country to the great victory of Spring 1975, liberating the South and reunifying the country.

March 28 will forever be one of the most brilliant pages in the history of the land and people of Hoi An, an extremely important historical milestone, marking the victorious end of the long journey full of sacrifice and hardship for peace, independence and freedom of the homeland, with the whole country entering the era of national independence and socialism.

"We believe that the historical milestones and achievements of Hoi An in the 50-year journey since the liberation of our homeland are the premise, the foundation, the motivation and the valuable luggage for the Party Committee, the government and the people of Hoi An to be proud and confident on the journey ahead. Thereby, we are ready to enter a new era of development - the era of national growth" - Mr. Tran Anh said.

At the end of the war, the entire city of Hoi An had 8/13 communes and wards, 2 armed units and 23 individuals awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces. Hoi An had 542 mothers awarded the title of Heroic Vietnamese Mother; the entire city had more than 3,000 wounded and fallen soldiers.

Since 2017, the city has no more poor households. By 2024, the budget revenue in Hoi An city will reach nearly 1,800 billion VND; the total number of tourists to Hoi An will reach nearly 5 million.

According to Provincial Party Secretary Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, Hoi An is not only a heroic locality in the resistance war against foreign invaders but also a heroic locality in labor production to develop the homeland.

"From a small town that suffered much pain and loss after the war, Hoi An today has strongly risen to become a world-famous tourist city. The Party Committee and the city government have made the right decisions and directions in determining the economic structure for reasonable investment and development for each period, maintaining the viewpoint of conservation management, rational exploitation of cultural values and natural resources to build Hoi An in the direction of an ecological - cultural - tourist city" - Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Luong Nguyen Minh Triet said.

Provincial Party Secretary Luong Nguyen Minh Triet emphasized that in the near future, if there is a need to change administrative boundaries, Hoi An will still be a world cultural heritage, a strong brand, an asset, and an extremely valuable resource for development. Whatever arrangements and adjustments are made, they are aimed at making Hoi An more developed and people's lives increasingly improved. Therefore, the Party Committee, government and people of Hoi An city need to continue to promote the heroic tradition, the spirit of solidarity, innovation and creativity towards the future with stronger confidence, motivation and spirit.
