On the morning of September 11, Nguyen Huynh Bao Nhi and Tu Dang Nguyen, students of Kien Thiet Secondary School (District 3), were present at the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City early. Holding two piggy banks in their hands, the two students said that this was a small gift for students facing difficulties in the North.

Two students from Kien Thiet Secondary School brought piggy banks to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City on the morning of September 11.

In recent days, seeing images of schools being destroyed by floods, sweeping away everything, Bao Nhi felt both lucky that Ho Chi Minh City was not affected much by natural disasters, and felt sorry for her friends of the same age and her fellow countrymen in the North.

"I am lucky because right now I can still go to school, to study safely, but my friends are in a lot of danger. Not only are their books swept away, but their lives are also in danger. There are many people missing..." - Bao Nhi shared.

From the pocket money her parents give her every day, Nhi uses half for personal expenses and saves the other half to put in a piggy bank.

"I started raising piggy banks last summer. My original plan was to donate them to people in difficult circumstances. Today, when I broke the piggy bank open, although I only raised 520,000 VND, I hope I can help a little bit to help people in flood-hit areas," Nhi said.

Bao Nhi and Dang Nguyen's savings of more than a year

Counting the money in the piggy bank, Dang Nguyen said this was not the first time he had donated money from a piggy bank. Nguyen had done charity work many times before.

"Once I used all the money in my piggy bank to give to my mother to buy food to cook vegetarian meals for people in difficult circumstances. Although the amount of money was not much, I felt very happy because I did something good for society" - Nguyen said.

Ms. Do Khanh Duyen, Head of the Youth Union of Kien Thiet Secondary School, said she was very happy to see the meaningful actions of the two students. As soon as the information about supporting the people of the North was received, the two students proactively contacted their homeroom teacher to ask for piggy bank support and the school arranged for teachers to support them to take them to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City to donate.

Previously, on September 10, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City also received many cases of students bringing piggy banks and books to support compatriots in the North.

According to the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), due to the impact of storm No. 3 and the floods after the storm, as of 9:00 a.m. on September 11, in localities, 201 people had died or gone missing (143 dead, 58 missing).
