Mrs. Nguyen Thi Loan (66 years old) and Mr. Nguyen Van Hung (70 years old), living in Hamlet 9, Ward 6, are considered to be in extremely difficult circumstances. They have 4 children, all of whom have their own families and their lives are very difficult. In their old age, the couple still have to earn a living. According to Mrs. Loan, when her husband was still healthy, he did whatever he was hired to do, and she grew vegetables around the house and cut them to sell at the market. But since the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, her husband got sick and had a lack of food, so his health declined. Currently, his eyes can barely see the light. She herself is sick and weak, but she has to be the "eyes" and take care of her husband.

Faced with the family's difficulties, the Women's Union of Ward 6 mobilized support for 2 health insurance cards for the couple, each worth 631,800 VND; coordinated to mobilize the construction of a prefabricated house worth 45 million VND so that the couple could have a place to shelter from the rain and sun, and gave 500,000 VND in cash for Ms. Loan to buy vegetable seeds to plant.

Ward 6 Women's Union presented health insurance cards to Mrs. Nguyen Thi Loan and Mr. Nguyen Van Hung.

Ward 6 Women's Union presented health insurance cards to Mrs. Nguyen Thi Loan and Mr. Nguyen Van Hung.

Holding the health insurance card in her hand, Mrs. Loan was moved: “My husband and I are old, often sick, and cannot make any money. Thanks to the help of the local authorities and neighbors, we have health insurance cards to take care of our health when we are sick, and have a healthy house to live in. For many years, whenever I was sick, I went to the store to buy some medicine to take, not daring to go to the doctor because it was expensive. Thank you to the local government and the Women's Union of Ward 6 for caring for and helping my husband and I.”

Ms. Nguyen Thanh Huong, 60 years old, temporarily staying in Hamlet 3, Ward 6, earns her living by selling lottery tickets. Every day, she and her daughter (30 years old, poor health) sell more than 200 lottery tickets. Saving every penny earned from selling lottery tickets, Ms. Huong pays for her daughter's rent, buys rice, and buys medicine to treat her daughter's illness.

Sharing the family's difficulties, the Women's Union of Ward 6 used the savings of the women to buy Ms. Huong and her daughter 2 health insurance cards to help them have better health care conditions. Ms. Huong expressed: "My daughter has a lump on her back, is often in pain but has no money for medical treatment. I myself have back pain and my health is also weakened due to frequent exposure to the sun and dust. Now that the Women's Union of Ward 6 has supported the health insurance card, I have the conditions to go to the doctor for my child, I am extremely grateful."

Ms. Do Thuy Ngan, President of the Women's Union of Ward 6, shared that in the ward, there are still some members with very difficult economic conditions. They have to worry about many things in life, so buying a health insurance card to prevent or treat diseases is a luxury for them. Normally, if they are sick, they go to the pharmacy to buy a few doses of medicine and that's it, the root of the disease is therefore not detected and completely treated. Faced with such difficulties, the Executive Committee of the Women's Union of the ward agreed to establish a model of "Women's group saving to buy health insurance cards to give to poor members", each month each member of the Executive Committee saves 10 thousand VND and mobilizes many other resources. After more than 1 year of establishment, 6 health insurance cards have been given to 6 women with especially difficult economic circumstances so that they have the conditions to see a doctor.

In addition to establishing the “Women’s Saving Group to Buy Health Insurance Cards for Poor Members”, the Executive Committee of the Women’s Union of Ward 6 also directed the Women’s Union of the hamlet to actively promote the meaning and importance of buying health insurance and participating in voluntary social insurance. Since then, women have changed their mindset and become more proactive in protecting their own and their families’ health./.
