Next school year, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy plans to increase tuition fees by a maximum of 10%, of which the Medicine and Dentistry majors will be nearly 85 million VND per year.

The information was announced by Associate Professor Nguyen Ngoc Khoi, Head of Training Department, at the Admissions Consulting Day organized by Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy on the morning of April 14. The day attracted about 1,600 students from Ho Chi Minh City and southern provinces.

Associate Professor Khoi said that tuition fees for all majors range from 46-84.7 million VND per year (10 months), an increase of 10% compared to the current level. The tuition fees for the two majors of Medicine and Dentistry are over 80 million VND per year, an increase of over 7 million.

The lowest are in the fields of Medical Engineering, Public Health, Nutrition, Dental Prosthetics, and Nursing, all at 46 million VND per year, an increase of 4.2 million.

Tuition fees for the 2024-2025 academic year of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy are expected to be as follows (million VND/year):

For candidates with difficult circumstances, Mr. Khoi advised them to feel secure in enrolling in the school if they really love it and have the ability. Every year, the school spends 5.5 billion VND to award scholarships, each covering about 25-100% of tuition fees. In addition, students can receive scholarships from many organizations and businesses, with a total cost of about 4 billion VND.

"Many people are worried that their financial difficulties will prevent them from getting into the school, but in reality, the school's scholarship fund for students last year still has surplus funds and has not been fully disbursed. Therefore, candidates should feel free to register," said Mr. Khoi.

This year, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy will recruit 2,516 students through 5 methods: direct admission, considering high school graduation exam scores, considering a combination of graduation exam scores and IELTS certificates; considering SAT scores (a standardized test used for university admission in the US); considering university preparatory candidates.

Admission criteria and combinations of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2024

The SAT score selection method is only for Medicine and Dentistry, up to 5% of the quota in each major. Candidates must have an SAT score of 1,340/1,600 or higher, within two years of the application deadline. Students need to register directly at the school and provide account information on the College Board - the organization that organizes the SAT test, so that the school can check the results.

In addition, candidates must have a total score of the 2024 high school graduation exam according to the combination reaching the floor level or higher.

In case many candidates have the same score, the one with the higher wish will be given priority. If the order of wishes is the same, the school will continue to consider the total score of the high school graduation exam according to the combination.

"Candidates can take the SAT multiple times and choose the highest score, but they cannot combine scores between sections, such as combining the Math score from one time with the Reading-Writing score from another time," Mr. Khoi noted.

Some candidates are concerned that their chances will be reduced if they do not take the SAT exam in time. Mr. Khoi explained that the school reserves 5% of the quota for two majors to consider admission based on this score, but also increases the quota by 5% compared to last year. Therefore, candidates applying for admission by other methods will not be affected.

Regarding the method of combining IELTS certificate and high school graduation exam score, Mr. Khoi said that IELTS certificate is a necessary condition. Candidates with IELTS certificate 5.0 or 6.0 are eligible to apply, the school considers admission based on high school graduation exam score from high to low. Therefore, even if the candidate has IELTS certificate 7.0 or 8.0, they will not be given priority or extra points.

IELTS certificate requirements for each industry are as follows:

IELTS 5.0 IELTS 6.0
Nursing Medical
Nutrition Dentistry
Dental restoration techniques Pharmacy
Public health Preventive medicine
Medical imaging technology Traditional medicine
Rehabilitation techniques
Midwifery

The deadline for receiving application documents will be announced by the school after the Ministry of Education and Training finalizes this year's university and college enrollment plan.

Last year, the benchmark score based on the high school graduation exam scores of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy was around 19-27.34, the highest being for the Medical major.
