As soon as universities announce their admission scores, qualified candidates will complete the admission procedures. This is also the time when families face financial hardships as most schools increase tuition fees, not to mention the cost of living in the expensive city.
Tuition fee nearly 100 million VND/year
The National Economics University has just announced the enrollment of advanced and high-quality programs with a quota of more than 2,000 out of a total of nearly 7,000 enrollment quotas for 2024 of this unit. It is worth noting that the tuition fee for the advanced program is up to 6.5 million VND/month, or 65 million VND/school year. For the high-quality program, the tuition fee is 4.7 million VND/month.
According to the leaders of the National Economics University, this tuition fee increased by about 3.5% compared to last year. If calculated for 4 years of study, each student studying in these programs will have to pay about 200 million - 260 million VND/course, not to mention other expenses during the study process such as textbooks, exams, internships, etc.
This is only the tuition fee for the first year as the school has announced that tuition fees may increase by no more than 10% for the following school years. This is indeed a significant expense for many families. With the standard program, the school's tuition fee has increased from 1 million to 2 million VND compared to the previous school year.
The tuition fee that the Banking Academy applies to new students in the standard training program is from 25 million to 26.5 million VND/year, an increase of more than 10 million VND compared to last year. According to the announcement of the Banking Academy, the tuition fee for the Business Management and Law major is 25 million VND/school year (last year it was 14.1 million VND/school year).
For the Information Technology major, the school offers a tuition fee of 26.5 million VND/school year (last year it was 16.4 million VND). For the Humanities, Social and Behavioral Sciences major, the tuition fee is 26 million VND/school year (last year it was 15 million VND).
The level of 37 million VND/academic year applies to high-quality programs. For international joint programs, tuition ranges from 340-380 million VND for the entire 4-year course, and may be higher if students choose to study their final year at a joint school.
Compared to scholarships, loans will have a better impact on students' efforts and training when they are aware of having to pay back the loan. However, with the current high demand for loans, schools still need to cooperate with businesses to expand capital sources so that more students can access loans, providing some support for families with children in college.
Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son
Tuition fees at Foreign Trade University are divided according to each training program. For the standard program in the 2024-2025 school year, the expected tuition fee is from 22 million to 25 million VND/year. For the high-quality program, the expected tuition fee is from 45 million to 48 million VND/year;
Advanced program, estimated tuition fee from 68 million to 70 million VND/year; career orientation and international development program, tuition fee about 48 million VND/year (group A) and from 60 million to 65 million VND/year (group B).
The tuition fees of medical schools are also quite high. This school year, the Dentistry Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy has the highest tuition fee of up to 84.7 million VND/school year/student; the Medicine Department is 82.2 million VND/school year/student...
Tuition fee of Hanoi Medical University for the 2024-2025 academic year for Traditional Medicine, Dentistry, and Medicine is highest at 55.2 million VND/academic year/student; tuition fee for some other majors is 41.8 million VND/academic year/student.

Is credit loan enough to cover tuition fees?
According to current regulations on credit for students, each student can borrow up to 40 million VND/10-month school year, equivalent to 4 million VND/month. However, this program applies to students from poor or near-poor households as prescribed by law and households with an average living standard according to the standards prescribed by law.
For students in this category, they are allowed to borrow money throughout their studies, but with the current increase in tuition fees, not to mention living expenses, the amount of 4 million VND/month is hardly enough to cover their expenses. This is a difficult "problem" for many families when sending their children to university in big cities.
Ms. Nguyen Thanh Ha, whose child was admitted to the University of Law (Hanoi National University) this year, said that although her child has not completed the admission procedures, the family has had to pay for the entire school year's accommodation at the school's dormitory in Hoa Lac. Because if they do not act quickly and wait until all students enroll, there will probably not be a place to stay at the dormitory at the price of 950,000 VND/month.
"Compared to the cost of renting a house, this is quite a favorable price. If they are not allowed to stay in the dormitory, the children will have to rent a house around the school for 2-3 million VND/month. Including the cost of food at the school canteen, tuition, and rent, my family will have to spend about 10 million VND per month for our children, not to mention any other expenses," said Ms. Ha.
With an expenditure of 10 million VND/month/student, many families in rural areas will find it difficult to pay for their children to study in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. To solve this problem, some schools have introduced a policy of lending students 0% interest credit with the loan amount equal to the tuition fee.
Ho Chi Minh City National University has applied a policy that students can borrow a maximum amount equal to the tuition fee for the first semester of this academic year but not exceeding 20 million VND/semester. The loan period is calculated from the date the student receives the first loan amount until the date of full repayment of principal and interest, if any.
Students must pay the principal for the first time immediately after having a job and income, but no later than 12 months from the end date of the course (including cases where they do not have a stable job).
