Le Phuoc Loc's way to school every day for many years has always been with his mother - Photo: LE THUAN
Phuoc Loc has just completed 8th grade with excellent results at Luong Hoa Lac Secondary School (Cho Gao district, Tien Giang province).
Journey to fight disease
When Hoi Loc was 3 years old, his family discovered something unusual about his health. Taking him to many hospitals, the diagnosis shocked his parents: their son had Hemophilia B (blood clotting disorder).
The months of living with illness and pain have been tormenting you ever since. Even changing baby teeth for Loc is not as simple as other children. Every time he changes teeth, Loc has to be hospitalized for a whole week so that the doctor can monitor him, watch out for complications so that if anything happens, he can handle it promptly.
The worst was the COVID-19 pandemic. During that difficult time, Loc suffered a ruptured blood vessel in his neck, bleeding in both his knee and hip joints, and had to undergo continuous plasma transfusions for 10 days.
The father went to the hospital to take care of his son and both father and son contracted COVID-19. Loc was in a deep coma and was on anti-plasma. The whole family was devastated.
So, like a miracle, or maybe it was his willpower and desire to live that was so strong that Loc gradually regained consciousness. But after that time, Loc could not move his limbs.
The doctor predicted that you would be paralyzed for life. But you are alive, and there is no gift more precious to a parent than that.
Mother and son were determined not to give up. Mother found a place to take Loc to physical therapy regularly. Once again, a miracle seemed to smile because after a period of persistent practice, Loc was able to walk again although he was still very weak. Mother stayed at home, becoming her son's support in all activities and movements.
Mom is always on the way to school
Now that only my father is a freelancer, life is even more difficult because my mother can hardly work.
Not only does she take Loc to school, every day when she puts her son in the classroom, she sits in the hallway waiting so that when he needs her, she will be there right away.
During recess, my mother tries to take me out to the yard and help me walk step by step, which also helps me exercise and feel better.
Regardless of rain or shine, my son's way to school is always with me, and I am always on time. My mother's day starts by waking up early to prepare meals for the whole family before taking her son to school.
Despite his illness, Loc always wanted to go to school. He didn't know how his condition would develop, and was in and out of the hospital all the time, so whenever he felt better, he would take advantage of the opportunity to study.
For any student, being an excellent student is already an effort. For Loc, that result is also a journey of redoubled effort. Teachers and friends calling Loc a warrior is probably not an exaggeration. You yourself know that this journey will have many obstacles and difficulties ahead in order to pursue the dream of conquering letters.
As for that poor mother in the countryside, as long as you fight, I will always be with you no matter how difficult it is. If you fight, I will fight too. That is not just a commitment but a goal for mother and child to walk together.
Life may never have miracles, but I still believe in a brighter tomorrow.
Special care and supervision
Le Phuoc Loc is always given special care and supervision to avoid injury or falls. Because each time it happens, it will have a very bad effect on the disease you are suffering from.
Loc had countless times suffered from microvascular hemorrhages that left bruises all over his body. The family also lost count of the number of times their son had to endure the pain of knee hemorrhages that left him unable to walk.
