With outstanding academic achievements and extracurricular activities, Thien Huong was chosen to represent more than 1,000 new graduates to speak at the 2025 graduation ceremony of Foreign Trade University, which took place on April 6.
Set a goal to graduate early
Previously, because she wanted to develop her communication skills, Thien Huong wanted to apply to the public relations major of another university.
"My homeroom teacher advised me that high school environment does not create many opportunities to demonstrate dynamism and develop soft skills, so Foreign Trade University would be a suitable choice. Based on her advice, I applied early and was admitted to the school" - Thien Huong recalled.
Thien Huong set a goal for herself to graduate early, graduate with a perfect GPA of 4.0, win scholarships and actively participate in extracurricular activities at school.
Although she was confident in her learning ability, at first, this female student applied the method of listening to the lecturer, taking notes and memorizing. As a result, Thien Huong only received an evaluation of about 7 points.
After that, Thien Huong decided to change her way of studying. To graduate early and have more job opportunities, Thien Huong and a group of 4-5 friends registered for credits together, some semesters studying up to 10-12 subjects; studying in groups, exchanging lessons to understand faster and remember longer.
Thanks to her perfect GPA in previous semesters and IELTS 7.5, in the second semester of her second year, Thien Huong surpassed many candidates to win a scholarship to do a 5-month student exchange at Yonsei University (Korea).
Participate in scientific research from first year
Besides studying and outstanding extracurricular activities, Thien Huong said that since her first year, she has actively participated in scientific research to gain experience. Since her second year, Thien Huong and her group members have promoted scientific research.
In particular, Thien Huong and her team presented two scientific topics at international conferences including IFEAMA 2023 and ICYREB 2023; one topic published in the FTU Working Paper Series was about "The impact of transformational leadership on employee engagement of Generation Z in Hanoi".
In particular, taking advantage of previous scientific research, in her graduation thesis, Thien Huong continued to research leadership style with the topic "The phenomenon of silence of Gen Z employees".
Although she has not officially received her university degree, Thien Huong said she has been working as a full-time business consulting intern at a financial company since October 2024.
Thien Huong plans to study abroad for a master's degree in business administration in the next 3-5 years, after gaining a lot of practical experience in the field.
