Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana made two big mistakes as Man United were held to a 2-2 draw by Lyon in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals last week.
Not just that match, Onana has made a total of nine mistakes leading to goals since he moved to Old Trafford from Inter Milan in 2023.
Not only did Onana make mistakes in the match against Lyon, he was also accused by his teammates of "making the opponents crazy", making them play like they were possessed, tiring the entire Man United team.
For example, before the match with Lyon, Onana publicly declared in the press: Man United are much better than Lyon!
Lyon played a great match, forcing the "Red Devils" to a 2-2 draw. After the match, his teammates at Man United blamed Onana for "tempting fate" by making unnecessary sarcastic remarks about his opponents.
A United insider revealed: "Some players are really angry with Onana. He is challenging fate by saying things like that. Onana would look silly if fate came back to bite him."
Coach Ruben Amorim admitted that he did not know how to advise the goalkeeper anymore. He said: "There is nothing I can say to Andre Onana to help him become better."
Legendary goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel, who won the treble with Man United in 1999, also spoke out: "Sometimes players say things they shouldn't say. Onana said things that backfired on him."
