Project 8 is one of 10 projects under the National Target Program for Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas, 2021 - 2030 period. The project is chaired by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union. In our province, Project 8 is implemented in 71 villages in 23 communes of 6 districts. The project aims to raise awareness, change prejudices, care for material and spiritual life, protect and care for women and children, achieve gender equality goals and focus on effectively solving some urgent issues of women and children in ethnic minority areas. Project 8 operates with 4 contents: Propagating and mobilizing to change "thinking and doing" to contribute to eliminating prejudices and gender stereotypes in families and communities, harmful cultural practices and some urgent social issues for women and children. Build and replicate models of changing “thinking and doing” to enhance women’s economic empowerment; promote gender equality and address urgent issues for women and children. Ensure the voice and substantive participation of women and children in socio-economic development activities of the community; monitor and criticize; support women in leadership in the political system. Equip knowledge of gender equality and skills to implement gender mainstreaming for officials in the political system, village elders, village chiefs, religious dignitaries and prestigious people in the community.
Leaders of the Southern Working Committee - Vietnam Women's Union, Provincial Women's Union and leaders of Bac Ai district presented gifts to orphans in the district.
In the series of communication activities of Project 8 in Bac Ai district, the following activities took place: Communication to improve knowledge of reproductive health care; Communication to improve knowledge to support women in economic development; Communication to prevent and combat violence; Introducing communication publications and documents guiding the implementation of Project 8 of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union; donating a zero-dong ao dai model to the Bac Ai Women's Union.
On this occasion, the Southern Working Committee mobilized philanthropists and businesses in Ho Chi Minh City to donate 82 gifts to orphans in the district, each gift worth 500,000 VND; 8 savings books for orphaned high school students in difficult circumstances and those admitted to university in 2023, each worth 5 million VND; 4 learning tools for children, each worth 1 million VND; 50 gifts for disadvantaged women in the district worth 40 million VND and presented 1 computer set to the Women's Union of Phuoc Chinh commune; 2 charity houses worth 80 million VND and some practical gifts for people in difficult circumstances in Bac Ai district.
