Maintaining the continuous historical flow of the IT&T industry
On August 23, in Hanoi, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung chaired a meeting with representatives of retired officials in the Northern region on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of the Information and Communications sector's traditional day.
2024 is the third year that the Ministry of Information and Communications has organized a meeting with officials who have worked in the Ministry and the Information and Communications sector through the periods in the three regions of the North, Central and South. Two meetings representing retired officials in the South and Central regions on the occasion of the traditional anniversary of the Information and Communications sector this year were held in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang on August 16 and August 22, respectively.
As has become a tradition, also in this August, the Ministry of Information and Communications will carry out many activities to celebrate the traditional day of the Information and Communications industry, typically the incense offering ceremony at the Dinh Hoa safety zone, Thai Nguyen and the Information and Communications industry martyrs' cemetery in Tay Ninh.
This year's meeting of retired cadres in the Northern region was opened with beautiful melodies through the violin of artist Anh Tu - Ambassador of Vietnamese Culture, evoking pride in the country and people of Vietnam, beautiful, united, resilient and compassionate. The proud tone was also continued when retired cadres looked back at the highlights in the industry's innovation journey through the video "Information and Communications Industry: Aspiration - Pioneer - Breakthrough".
Affirming that the tradition of organizing meetings and expressing gratitude to retired cadres in the three regions of the country will continue to be maintained, the head of the Information and Communications sector also said that the Ministry of Information and Communications has initiated activities to prepare for the 80th anniversary of the sector's tradition, focusing on the plan to renovate and upgrade the sector's cemeteries, relic sites, traditional houses and supplement artifacts, documents and images at the sector's museums.
“The spirit is to create a continuous flow, with a past with all generations and a present,” Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized.
Along with the construction of the Ministry's traditional room, in the coming time, the Ministry of Information and Communications will assign Vietnam Post Corporation to build a digital museum of the Post Office, and the digital museum of the Ministry and the Information and Communications sector will also run together on this digital platform.
Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung shared: the fact that officials, civil servants, public employees, and workers working in the information and communications industry are welcomed by retired officials from different periods is an opportunity to remember their roots, not only to show gratitude but also to remind themselves who they are, what their responsibilities are, and what they need to do to both inherit and develop the industry.
The current generation opens up a new future for the industry
At the meeting, the mission and orientation of the Information and Communications sector in the current period were once again mentioned by Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung. Specifically, the Information and Communications sector has the mission of creating wings for Vietnam to fly, with one side being the spiritual strength - the press and media arousing the desire for power, creating trust and social consensus; and the other side being the material strength created by technology, mainly digital technology.
Along with recalling the achievements of the first innovation of the industry 40 years ago, the Minister of Information and Communications also pointed out: The second innovation is to transform from telecommunications infrastructure to digital infrastructure, including telecommunications - Internet infrastructure, data infrastructure, infrastructure to digitize all data, infrastructure to provide utilities for digital transformation; And digital infrastructure becomes the infrastructure of Vietnam's digital economy.
“Vietnam is implementing comprehensive digital transformation, developing all five areas of economy, culture, society, politics and environment to industrialize and modernize the country. Digital transformation has officially become a new method and driving force for development to turn Vietnam into a high-income developed country by the middle of the century,” Minister Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized.
On behalf of the leaders of the Ministry of Information and Communications, Deputy Minister Nguyen Huy Dung reported to the retired officials attending the meeting about the development of the industry over the past year, from August 2023 to the end of July 2024.
Accordingly, in addition to updating the results of institutional improvement to promote the development of the industry and the country, Deputy Minister Nguyen Huy Dung also pointed out figures showing the positive growth of the industry in recent times. That is, the industry's total revenue is estimated at more than 4.1 million billion VND, up 13.9% over the same period; The industry's total profit is estimated at 299,448 billion VND, up 8.4%; The state budget contribution is estimated at 114,431 billion VND, up 13.9%; The industry's contribution to GDP is estimated at 968,301 billion VND, up 12.3%.
The outstanding achievements and difficulties in the past year, along with the orientations, solutions and key tasks in the coming time in each management area of the Information and Communications sector, were also reported by representatives of the Ministry of Information and Communications to retired officials.
The results of the implementation of the two key tasks of the Information and Communications sector, which are developing virtual assistants to support units within the Ministry and 5G base station equipment "Made in Vietnam" - proving that Vietnam can master technology, were reported by representatives of the National Digital Transformation Agency, the Telecommunications Department and Viettel to the industry's veteran officials.
Through the report of the Ministry of Information and Communications at the meeting, retired officials all shared the same opinion that recently the Ministry of Information and Communications has done many things and made great progress.
Former Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Do Trung Ta commented that with the support of digital technology, the fields of the information and communications industry have developed better, faster, and more securely. He also expressed his hope that in the coming time, the current staff of the Ministry and the industry will continue to promote tradition and move forward more strongly.
Assessing that the IT&T industry has made great progress, veteran journalist Ha Dang, former Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan newspaper, hopes that in the coming time, the industry will continue its glorious tradition, develop more and more and become more worthy of its pioneering position.
"The lessons of the past will be great lessons for the IT&T industry to continue to develop and enter a new phase," journalist Ha Dang commented.
Accepting the comments of former Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Do Trung Ta, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung said that the Ministry of Information and Communications will learn from experience to communicate more about the industry, so that not only generations of officials in the industry are proud but also so that the political and social systems understand the role of the information and communications industry in the country's development.
In response to the concern of former Viettel General Director Hoang Anh Xuan about the orientation and policy mechanisms to promote the development of the digital technology industry and the semiconductor industry in Vietnam, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung said: The Ministry of Information and Communications has established the Department of Digital Technology Industry, formalizing the Ministry's leadership to create development for this platform industry. Carrying out the tasks assigned by the Government, the Ministry of Information and Communications has basically completed the development of a national strategy for the development of the semiconductor industry, which clearly states what Vietnam will do and how to do it.
Retired officials were also informed about the results of the IT industry going out to conquer the world; Vietnamese digital technology enterprises realizing the aspiration of technological autonomy; Solutions of the Ministry of Information and Communications to solve the problem of journalism economics; Digital transformation of the Ministry and development of virtual assistants; Personnel work or the story of the university of the Ministry of Information and Communications organizing training according to the digital university model for workers, helping them realize their dream of going to university...
Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung also shared about the new mission that the Ministry of Information and Communications set for itself, which is to create new working tools and careers related to the use of digital technology so that retirees can continue to work, contribute and create value.
Committing that the current generation of the industry will continue to preserve and develop the "home" of the IT&T industry, Minister Nguyen Manh Hung promised retired officials:
“We will do well with the spirit of inheriting the past, opening the future, opening a new page for our generation so that the Vietnamese IT&T industry is a continuous flow, developing.
